Horrible default gamma/brightness settings or Japanese standard?
I like eye candy and accuracy of colors, so I can view content as it was created and viewed by developers. Therefore I calibrate my displays to D65 standard with a colorimeter and a spectrophotometer. Almost all games look fantastic on my display, except for this one...

Which standard did CAPCOM developers use when creating Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 7? I have 3 preset/profiles on my non-HDR TV for gamma, all 3 use D65 standard (6500K Temp, Rec. 709 colorspace, always use RGB 0-255 range, 4:4:4 subsampling):
1. ITU BT.1886
2. Power-Law 2.2
3. Power-Law 2.4

None of those standard gamma options make this game look correct/good depth and contrast-wise. Default brightness/gamma settings make both games (RE2 and RE7) look washed out, and flat. There is no way both games were designed to look that way...

Adjusting gamma/brightness in RE2/7 (or any game in general) display options messes up the rest of the calibration (white balance and colorspace). Default brightness/gamma settings are supposed to be the settings developers used when making the game.

The only explanation is that CAPCOM uses some standard other than D65. I heard in Japan there is a different standard that uses 9300K for color temperature. Is that so? What about the rest of the grayscale and colorspace info? I hope CAPCOM reads these forums because whoever decided on the standard they used or the default brightness/gamma settings, made the game unplayable for me... It just looks bad due to those settings/standard, but the actual graphics (textures, meshes, lighting, etc.) looks awesome.

Again, adjusting in-game brightness, gamma, or using ReShade to create proper contrast is NOT an option for those who want to see an accurate image...

BTW, the in-game sRGB and Rec.709 options are also misleading and have nothing to do with colorspace. Those settings adjust 0-255/16-235 range. sRGB and Rec.709 colorspace is identical.

I'm having a simillar problem, but with a less technical explanation:

The HDR works ok, but it seems that the gamma or brightness is really bad in some areas, for example the first scene in the service station, blacks are very good, but in the next dark scene (inside police station) the brightness is too high and the flashlight effect is really dull...

Using an LG Oled - C8
