Leon's default starting costume question

I just bought the deluxe edition tonight and I can't seem to pick Leon's default (non 'original' remake) RPD outfit to start the game in. He starts out in his sweater and jeans attire as his 'normal' gear. I can't seem to find any info about this online, though I definitely see a lot of default RPD Leons out there... Anyone have any answers?

I'm pretty sure you have to finish the game to unlock it to be playable for the next playthrough, or at least get up to a certain point in the Leon A story.

How far in are you? Cause if you selected the default stuff, once you're at the RPD after a cutscene you should see leon changed into his kit.

I think he means the classic PS1-era police uniform, which isn't the one that Leon changes into during the story.

He starts in the jacket. You get the remake RPD gear shortly after entering the station.

And once you beat his A or B scenario, you get to wear the jacket or uniform all game.

Ohh i think I get it. I literally just set foot into the police department. You guys are telling me at some point later Leon actually changes his clothes in the game story?? derp. I guess i should have stuck around just a bit longer before I decided to see what was up
