A question for those who prefer legshots over headshots
On my 2nd run I'm trying to do a few thigns differently, including doing legshots to make them crawl if necessary.

However so far it's proven to be more of an issue than even outright leaving them walking, because running past crawlers, even those facing away, I get grabbed by the leg. This doesn't even happen with 'healthy' zombies if I run past them when they're looking away because they have little time to react. Crawlers seem even more dangerous.

This is all about corridors and narrow hallways of course, avoiding crawlers in open spaces is easier, but then again I don't need to shoot them in more open spaces at all.

Just pay attention to which way they're facing, it's not that hard man.
A crawler has an effective grab range of about 60 degrees in front of them, at a maximum distance of... lets be generious, 1 meter.

A shambler, even with only 1 arm, has a grab range of about 180 degrees in front of him at a maximum distance of 3 to 5 meters depending on how long they sprint for. Mathmatically crawlers are less dangerious.

Never been grabbed by them. You can just shoot in the head/leg 1-2 times to stun them and walk by.

Legshot person here. I usually thin the amount of zombies out as much as needed in narrow places (legshot> knife to death) and leave the rest be. It's a nice middle ground you could work with.

In a situation where a crawler is facing away from me in a narrow corridor, he would always grab me unless I attract his attention and force him to crawl to me, in case of which it's just more effective to not waste ammo and shoot the legs. But I'll keep trying.

how many bullets does it take you on average to shoot the leg off?

3-5 leg shots (always smallest cursor) then I run over and slash with knife in the back until they stop moving. I try to never use the knife in self-defense since it breaks so easily that way. Or rather, I use it that way after it has no health left (the bar is completely empty and would break after like one more slash). So I often have two knifes with me, one for slashing and one with no health that I can use up for defense.

Shoot them in the head first. Then cut of two of their legs. 90% chance they wont reanimate.

Don't underestimate crawlers but yes a walking zombie can stumble as fast as you can run and grab you it's ridiculous. I shoot legs in non corridors but in hallways you have to kill them.

basically just shoot off a limb each time you pass
also there are certain zombies who are really persistent better to just shoot all their limbs off as soon as you see them
With this you have done half of the “Cute” strat.
Take all limbs off and watch them turn into cute lil worms that scoot around trying to follow you.

How many scenarios did you play/which difficulty?

I always shoot the heads because I don't want to leave zombies alive, unless I know I'll never enter that area again. Head = chance for instant kill. If I don't get one, then I knife them to death when they fall down. Never had a ammo problem with this method and I've S+ hardcore Leon A with it.

Makes it so much easier when you know the zombies are dead in the corridor when Mr X chases you.

Right now I'm playing on Hardcore and quite honestly I feel killing zombies is going to bite you in the butt for bosses.

I tried to use the nice strategy for William Birkin after using the three metals but once he hits me once I kind of abandon it.

I definitely haven't mastered the art of knifing bosses.

The issue I have with this is that I can do the same with headshot + slashing AND have the chance to crit them, which isn't all that rare, so it's potentially more resourceful.

It works for me. I never run out of ammo, finish every game with loads left over.

I got tired of trying to kill them as Claire. With Leon I just blew their heads off with a shotgun, but with Claire I had the worst luck with getting critical headshots. So I just learned to turn them into 5-Piece People Mcnuggets.

Get the SMG, shred off their legs, then their arms. More reliable than headshot kills, works just as well, it just makes you a little depressed watching them worm around later.
