DLC/Preorder guns vs Matilda?
I'm sure this has been asked already, but is there any benefit to using any of the DLC Samurai Edges? Like, any passive bonuses? Because aside from an initially larger clip size, the Matilda completely outclasses them once you get the upgrade parts. While the Samurai Edges, as far as I can tell, can't use any of the handgun parts that make the Matilda so good (eventually)

The only upgrade that changes Matilda's accuracy and damage is the muzzlebreak, the other upgrades are only rof and mag size.

Wesker's gun seems to be the best option for the start of the game, until matilda is fully upgraded. It's "robust damage" seemed to crit more often than anything else which is all that really matters at the start.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I dunno, people say Wesker's Samurai Edge is better and has a higher chance to crit but I felt Matilda was much more consistent and useful when you got the stock. I honestly never noticed any real different though. Early game the Wesker model is better than Matilda but once you upgrade the Matilda it's better imo.

I'd say the DLC weapons are purely for flavour and that's about it. Maybe one or two early game benefits like slightly faster aim speed but otherwise, you don't need any of the DLC weapons.

Wesker gun is my favourite.

Nah, the DLC handguns aren't all that great.
Which is hilarious, because they dock your score for using them.

Wait what? Where did you hear that from? I thought it was just the infinite weapons that dock score.

My original run of the game was under B rank time, but I was given a C anyway. The only condidtion I can even think of that would dock me a point is using A DLC handgun breifly.

I got S and used Wesker's gun for alot of the run. I don't think that is was affected it.

Oh? What was your completion time and save count? Interested in narrowing down what does and does not effect your grade.
SmokeCheeba Jan 30, 2019 @ 3:51pm
The only deciding factor for S is time completion. Standard is 3:30 for A story and 3 hours for B story. (2:30 - 2 hours for hardcore)

S+ will not allow for infinite ammo weapons or more than 3 saves.

All your answers were very useful (including the score factor stuff, which I didn't even think to ask about!)

Thanks a lot guys

Unlike some of the pre-order bonuses you get in RE7 that will actually really help you throughout the game, the dlc guns are only good for like the first 30 minutes to hour of the game. And costumes are just so-so. The only dlc worth getting for this game from my experience is the original soundtrack option. That's it pretty much.

The Albert model gun is better early game until you can get muzzle brake, and extended mag on the Matilda. Claire's gun is already pretty good.

I used the DLC guns my first play (LEON/A), I beat it with 3hr27min with S rank, about 24 saves? Im pretty sure infinite weapons are the only ones docked.

Nooooop ! Using any DLC weapons doesn't and I meant DOESN'T in the correct way, duck your final score at the end
