Large Gear Missing?

So far on my playthrough of Claire's campaign in Standard Mode, I have made it to the Clock Tower, and realized I needed to use the Large Gear in this area. However, upon returning to the nearest Item Box, I discovered that the Large Gear was not there!

Searching online jogged my memory of where the item could be found, and I returned to the East Storage Room, 3F. The only item remaining was the Combat Knife that I hadn't removed from the statue due to inventory space, during my first trip to this room. The Large Gear was not on the crate in the middle of the room, and after taking the knife, this room showed up as "Search Completed" on my map.

The Large Gear is not in my inventory, nor is it in the Item Box in the Main Hall. Is this a glitch, or are the Item Boxes not connected to each other?

Haven't you used once on the tower and forgot to get it back for the second use?

idk but if what you say is true then, no we need to go to the police and tell them about this

Negative; I had just reached the Clock Tower, and did not have the Large Gear in my inventory. Or is there another tower where I would have used the item?

It's the same room, you use the gear once downstairs then have to grab it and use it again upstairs.

That is what I am saying; I had only just reached the Clock Tower, on 3F, and I did not have the Large Gear in my inventory to use. Thinking that I had stashed it in the Item Box, I went back to look for it, but the Large Gear was not in the Item Box.

dude, the large gear is in the Storage Room 3F, in the area with 2 zombies, not the one who open with the heart key, search in the middle of the room :)

I did. It was not there when I returned to the room, nor was it in my inventory or in the Item Box. The map shows the room as "Searched Completely."

I am now typing literally seconds after reloading the game using the Autosave entry. After returning to the East Storage Room 3F, I have found that the Large Gear was there. Obviously I plan to keep it in my inventory this time, but if a key item can go missing from the Item Box, that feels like a serious bug in the game.
