Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2

Statistiche:
Are there more classic horror games?
I was a big fan of horror 2 decades ago but most of the newer horror games are just walking sims or hide and seek games.

Are there more games like the old REs or Silent Hill? I still have the Obscure series on console and will probably grab it here once it goes on a deep sale, but other than that? Daymare is a clunky mess and the devs are too incompetent to read their own codes to fix bugs.

Sh? Doomed to be a pachinko machine.

Any more more action oriented games out there? Steam is full of hiding simulators for streamers.

FEAR 1 was pretty frightening, especially how vocal and merciless the AI are.
There's more reasons why FEAR 1 was so loved and if I remember its how the AI was handled being one of them which is something MANY game developers just can't seem to replicate.

What about The Evil Within series?
That's NOT horror, nowhere close just a stupid game trying to wear an RE skin hell if you were to browse the store for games similar just to this remake alone it would come up, that's how much its wearing that skin.

Erm.. The director of The Evil Within is Shinji Mikami. He was the director for the original RE and RE4, producer for RE 2, 3, CV.

To say The Evil Within is a game trying to wear an RE skin is a tad funny seeing that it is made by the originating father of RE. It's his idea and his style, so it's not exactly copying if he is copying himself?

Furthermore, I think his influence on RE is felt when he left Capcom, seeing how RE5 and RE6 turned out to be more action orientated.

Some classic horror games:

Fatal Frame series

Syren (or was it Siren?)

Clock Tower series

Fear 1 might be interesting for some horror fans despite being heavily shooter based and the AI, hilariously, is far more advanced than most AI in even modern games (tho it absolutely has some dumb elements that could be exploited as well).

Dead Space series

Metro series (kinda but also an FPS game, but it is slower and much more atmospheric).
I would say try Dead Space which is heavily influenced by Resident Evil 4 and The Evil Within which is from the creator of Resident Evil.

If you are looking for something more atmospheric like Silent Hill, you should try Dreadout.

Agree. It really depends on how you define "Horror". Different people have different expectations regarding what "horror" must be. But the Dead Space series was enjoyable, as was both Evil Within games. They aren't the same as RE, which is good or you'd get bored with repetition, yet they are "you vs. creatures" type situations.

Yet the majority of the games enemies are "hey I got close to you now you're dead" even all the bosses have instant kill gimmicks attached to them or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gimmicks like whats her face and baldy mick ♥♥♥♥ who both can teleport short distances and cause ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deaths!
Yes I got to the Mansion in Evil Within 1 & quit playing got tired of the auto kill badguy popping in ganking me for no reason, its like why? The game was decent enough up until that point as I got fed up with it all, some really cheap stuff in that game. I stop playing when it becomes more of a chore or annoying to do a part in a game, I don't like having to repeat myself due to cheap auto-kill or bad design, pretty much I got to the point where I didn't care anymore I would die every other place from cheap gimmick a b or c & just rinse & repeat until to the next stage finally quit.

Was like just take your cheap kill & lets do it all over again & this was most of the game.

I've had to had die like I don't know guessing 100 times so far in Evil Within haven't beat it once.

And then you have the bad spawning on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as well resulting in even more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deaths when it can't even be prevented.

Doesn't change the fact that its still one of the best survival and psycological horror games i've ever played.
Would you mind elaborating?
I'd gladly give it another shot, but my experience with it has shown great visual horror design and numbingly poor gameplay horror design, as in it was all built on cheap jumpscares
as you've said it the great visual horror design is its selling point. It does have its share of jumpscares but it doesn't 100% rely on those. The atmosphere of the game gets extremely opressive in the later portions of the game specially in the forest and mental hospital and those are extended sections with almost no enemies involved.

Oppresive atmosphere is something hard to accomplish these days and in that regard CoF puts every attempt at horror like "Evil Within" and the likes to shame.

Try this game. Its inspired by the RE games, and it has a free demo available to try before you buy.
Nachtmahr said he already tried Daymare, and his opinion of it isn't exactly favorable. Plus it doesn't really have much to do with old RE/SH games.
You can give this a try OP, see if this has better opinions than Daymare did especially since (which this is funny to me) steam has this and Daymare is a VS bundle.

Evil within 1 + 2.

Ignore the folks in this thread who seem to have some very odd experiences with the game.

This game came out in 2001, the best in the series in my opinion. The newer ones are awful, and the older ones are way too outdated. But beware the game has serious compatibility issues, especially on Windows 10. Who knows, there might be a way to fix it.
