Play the game with the original soundtrack
This recommendation is mostly for newcomers who never played the original. The remake soundtrack is either generic, not memorable, or none existent. Trust me, it will be a far better experience.

I've played the game twice with the new OST and twice with the original and I disagree with you.

While I love the ambience, and obviously the nostalgic notes, the music was designed to fit in with the static camera angles and prerendered backgrounds to create a certain atmosphere.

The remake does its own atmosphere fantastically and as such allows for deeper immersion with much more subtle sound cues.
The Mr.X theme also stands out much more because of this, and to me personally is just way more menacing than the original.

My advice would be play 1st run with everything on default, and switch to classic outfits and classic OST for a bit of variety and atmosphere change for a second run.

And I disagree with you. I also thought that the original soundtrack won't suit the Remake, and boy I was wrong... I actually started playing the game with the remake track but I had to switch it to the OG and it was a good decision. The camera angles has nothing to do with it in my opinion. I could be nostalgic but the original tracks are much better and memorable, and that is something that is hard to argue with. To me even the MR.X theme is better in the original.

& I disagree with the both of you!

I'd have rather gotten better new tracks.

Well at the end of the day it's all subjective.

My point was that the absence of a noticeable soundtrack helped immersion in many cases. I enjoyed playing both with and without it so maybe let people play and choose for themselves.

I wasn't trying to prove you wrong, but point out that it's a matter of taste and that the remake's sound design has a place for it.

I'll be playing RE3 the same way: all vanilla on playthrough 1, then a replay with classic costumes and music.

I've only play with the orig sound track. Miss me with that not playing with it on ♥♥♥♥.

The original soundtrack worked for the original game, the remake soundtrack is perfect the remake. (The absence of Music in a given scene is no less part of the sound design than its presence by the way.)

The only place I give make a slight concession is the final escape theme with Leon.

Not because the original is better mind you, but because they're both equally excellent and capture the mood perfectly.

It's your opinion. How about comparing the R.P.D main hall, and save room themes? Or the first floor, second floor and library themes, oh I'm sorry those 3 don't even exist in the Remake.

I'm not the one telling people how to play a game because of nostalgia.

Didn't need any.
Absence of sound is still purposeful sound design

I like it.

It's oddly evocative of RE4's theme, which is appropriate considering this game stars Leon.

Because the remake uses the Zombies and other enemies in these locations as music cues.

Learn some basic sound design concepts.

I respect your opinion, but to me the original soundtrack is unbeatable, and most people have the same opinion. The main hall and save room themes are barely noticeable, and once they are over it never plays again, which is just dumb and stupid.

"Most people" typically refers to an echo chamber.

The original soundtrack just sounds over-eager and out of tone with the game, with one or two exceptions where it fits relatively well. (The Lab being one.)

This is a mentality not conducive to appreciating art.

The original soundtrack certainly has more tracks that are "listenable", but that does not mean they make for a good soundtrack in *this* Game.
That's why the absence of music in the main hall works better than any theme they could have given it, ambient or otherwise.

To me RE2 is not RE2 without the original soundtrack and menu sounds. They are the essence of the game.

That's called blind nostalgia.

I didn't really notice any music in my first playthrough (with original ost off). I found that super disappointing.

Nah, in my opinion it's called a better, more memorable, atmospheric, and iconic soundtrack when it comes to the original. Can't say any of this for the new one.
Bansheebutt Dec 25, 2019 @ 10:31am
Saying the 98 soundtrack is better because it's "iconic" is literally nostalgia.
