What is wrong with the screen space reflections?
When i enable this setting, i see some strange artifacts on the walls and the floor in the police station. After setting this option to off again, the artifacts are gone. Why is this happening?

GPU is a GTX 1080 with the latest Nvidia 417.71 driver and Windows 10 x64 v1809. The textures are set to High 2GB, because i want to stay below the 8GB in the graphic options.

Screen space reflections were broken in RE7 as well (same engine). Looks like an issue with the setting. I recommend you leave it off.

They're too strong.

Most games that use the effect only reflect certain key environment details, RE2 basically reflects everything, including the player, which is why you get that awkward halo around yourself in reflective areas.

Screen space reflections are always kinda buggy looking, more or less depending on the game. Since they are "fake" reflections that can only reflect object that are in the camera's direct view as far as i know.
They do seem to be extra weird in this engine tho, id still leave them on as all water reflections disappear if the setting is disabled.

That is what things look like in real life.

You get rid of its side effects but you lose a lot of cool reflections as well. Like Leon's face being reflected on the blood on the ground just before Marvin saves him, and objects being reflected on flooded corridors.

Yeah, that's right but i can live with that. At the end, the game looks nice even if i don't have the water reflections anymore.

That i agree. This game looks decent even on low settings aside from Shadow Quality.

RE7 had an option to set SS reflections to "variable" which left the water effects on but turned it off everywhere else. Hope they patch such an option in the future.

That would be a good option to have indeed.
