Dealing with doggies
So, the dogs in and around the kennel, after you turn the power on I just ran from them as quickly as I could (got attacked by a dog twice and a licker once IIRC) I don't think I need to return to the kennels (do I?), but I will have to go back into the garage to get to the jail and get the garage key should I kill the dogs in areas I have to cross through or is it a waste of ammo? Would I be better off running from them?
Just worried about running out of healing items (think I have two red&green herbs in my box and one in my inventory and have collected up all first aid sprays I've come across, but not used them.

Playing on normal. Have about 40 handgun bullets (+12 in my Matilda from the extended mag) and about 10 shot shells in total. I also have plenty of gunpowders, I think I've made one batch of pistol ammo and one batch of shotgun ammo.

Am currently in the main hall after exiting through the garage, up to the break room and have killed Starvin' Marvin

You should clear them out. Try to bait them down one of the longer hallways to funnel them towards you. But there are alot of them and they will be in your way later on.

I had a little trouble with these pests because I was dumb with my ammo management.

Handgun bullets are actually very reliable for putting the doggos down and it’s worth killing them because of their speed.

You don’t want to have to consume an herb if you don’t have to.

When you first go into the kennel and they are barking at you from within the cages, you can take most them out, and you'll only have to deal with the ones in the central parking lot, the two in the power room, and i think one more en route back to the parking lot

Just kill them. They are annoying. Not as easy to dodge as in the original since they are faster than you.

I only saw 3 in cages and killed them before I turned the power on. I could still hear barking but couldn't see any, though I probably missed a few.

Would the pistol be best for them?

Also should I reload a save and go back and kill them now, or just leave them until later? I'll have to walk run through the dark hallway on the (east?) To get back there and I didn't bother killing most of the zombies to conserve ammo. Only the ones in the corridor by the safe room.

I'm pretty sure that more spawn regardless. I dealt with several down there and only saw a few in the kennels. Also, the rooms you see a small vent open on the wall near the ground.... they like to use those to get around so be prepared.

But a pistol it more than enough, you just need to land those shots around the head or chest. Be ready to follow up on them when they're on the ground.

Just realized I turned the power on before going through the diamond door. Well this is going to be fun.
Should I just reload and do an 20 mins of gameplay over again?

Edit, went back down to go through the diamond door. Doggies seem to have vanished (at least from the stairs to the firing range) guess they must be in the garage.

And after doing that the game just crashed to desktop right as I got to a typewriter.
No doubt this time every single dog will be in that hallway.
