Lickers don't lick

I haven't seen a single licker lick. The first one you see clearly has a long tongue to pick things up, and attack, yet there is no licking going on.

If you get some distance from them, I saw it can tie its tongue around you and go into a little cutscene where it attacks u, but yeah I get it, they're so fast u can't really observe their attacks.

They use their tongue at a very specific range. Get further away and they leap, get closer and they claw.

ye they have been buffed in this game...i rather them lick me than slashing/pouncing me and give me a huge recovery animation that I hate to get out of. Leon takes 4 well placed shotgun shots to take one out and you don't even flinch them with it......only reason never mix my gunpowders into shotgun shells. On the other hand Claire's grenade launcher only takes 2 flaming/1 acid+couple pistol shots to take one out and its insanely safe to do so as they get knocked on their back for a solid few seconds.....oh well

yes they do, its a long range tongue attack. knocks you from fine to orangy caution in hardcore

They never specifically "lick." That's just a nickname for their long ass tongue. They cut with their tongue and stab.
