Crashes on startup Windows 7
All of the sudden, I launch the game and it says im on the game on the steam friends window then it doesn't after a few seconds. Every other game works fine and this is different than the crash some people are having on windows 10 where the game opens in a window then black screens and crashes. All my drivers are up to date and added exception for avast and nothing is working. Anyone else having this problem or know a possible fix? I was getting to a really good part in the game too damnit

***SOLUTION/FIX***
after running the exe in compatibilty mode for windows 7 that fixed but don't run as admin. I did both earlier and the same problem happened but only ran it in compatibility mode and it launched.

I descirbed exactly what happens. It starts, no windows pop up, on steam friends it says im on re2, then after about 5 seconds it says im not on re2 and no error message pops up. This randomly happened out of nowhere because yesterday everything was fine

i've done all of that and none of that works. Verifying integrity and disabling avast also didnt work.

i honestly can't think of what it could possibly be. I feel like this happened with resident evil 7 too. Its just weird how it came out of nowhere and nothing changed since yesterday and it's only this game.

Really weird. Have win 7 too, avast on and game started up normally. Would also have suggested to verify the files.
Besides reinstalling the game, i cant think of anything else at this stage.

Maybe try to start the game with the exe file where the game is installed on. Not through steam.

Did you really do ALL of it, or are you just saying that because you think some of the steps are a waste of time?

I'm not trying to bust your balls, but I've been fed the old 'I've tried all that already' line so many times over the decades when it turns out to be one of those troubleshooting steps anyway that I tend to not believe people right off the bat anymore.
Im up to date windows. Gfx drivers are up to date. First thing I did was verify integrity. Avast has exception made for re2 and even disabled so its 100% not avast. My system can obviosuly run it so it has nothing to do with that. Lastly, everything was closed except the essentials when starting the game.

I get the feeling your antivirus might still be quarantining the launcher for some reason.
Even if i made exception for re2 and disabled it and both resulted in the same thing happening?

It's consistent with the description of the issue. What happens when you open the launcher in compatibility mode?
I mean i launch from library not desktop

I tried making desktop icon for re2 but there isnt an option to launch in compatibility mode but if i already did that with the re2.exe earlier then isnt that the same thing?

Go to the game's install folder, right-click the game's launcher, go to Properties > Compatibility and see what happens when you run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or 8. If it gives you an error after doing so, post it here.
that fixed it !! Nice thanks man. I ran with compatibilty mode for windows 7 on the exe earlier and ran as admin wonder if running as admin had something to do with it
