Weird striped shadows
Just noticed it halfway into the game.

they look like this https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/942843406079538746/85E2B6AB9599817E78D773216BB66B62DD13FFEA/

The stripes disappear when i set shadows to the highest setting. But that eats all my fps so that's not an option. (if you look closely, there are still very thin stripes) Any idea how to fix that?

Using a GTX 970.

Edit: Seems to be an RE engine problem. RE 7 has the exact same issue. So no way to fix that completly except max shadows

Have you tried switching the DirectX API version to see if it exhibits this in both DX12 and DX11?

Yup. Still looks the same.

I experienced horrible effects until I turned off Subsurface Reflections or whatever. The game just didn't handle them well, turned most of them into meshy criss crossed blurry shadow things, it got extremely bad later in the game WHERE EVERYTHING WAS CLEAN AND SHINY so turning that off was a requirement to not end up throwing up.

Does that fix it? What about the Contact Shadows setting? And your graphics drivers? All green?

It's a RE engine thing. That happened in RE7 as well. I found the only way to fix it was to crank the shadows up to max.

Yea i have the same issue in RE 7.

I fiddled around and the only way to kinda get rid of them is max shadow settings... And even then you can see very thin lines if you look closely. But i can't crank them up to max it's too much of an performance impact for me.

Turn shadows off if you can

The lowest setting is minimum. And it looks worse the lower you go.

It's a bit late, but I found the setting to solve the shadows problem, you need to ramp up the "Image quality" slider, 150% woks, still need to fine tune to see if 110% does the trick, but the problem is that slider. It was impossible for me to try until I changed my GPU (had a gtx 760). I hope this helps someone, at least not to loose their time with the other settings ... The only one that fixes shadow or dithered glass is Image quality.
