Which RE games do you consider to be canon?
In your mind, which RE games make up the RE universe? For me, I ignore everything except 1, 2 and 3. As far as I'm concerned the whole Resident Evil saga begins with the bizarre murders in Raccoon City (in the intro of RE1) and ends with Racoon City getting nuked (the outro of RE3). I always imagine that after this, the remaining members of Umbrella are tried for their crimes and life continues as normal.

I ignore RE0 because it seems like a spin-off in the timeline. Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil 1 does not mention ever being on a train and fighting gruesome monsters. In RE1 she's obviously just a surviving member of the team who's hiding in the mansion.

I ignore Code Veronica because it has the most annoying character in probably any game ever - Steve Burnside. He makes me cringe even harder than the terrible dialogue and voice acting in the original RE1. I literally can't take this game seriously at all because of him.

And I ignore RE4 and everything after it because it's no longer Resident Evil and it's no longer survival horror, it's a rollercoaster action shooting game.

I'm sure that tons of awesome games could have been made about the history of Umbrella, but I think they botched it badly with the crappy spin-offs and action-focused games they made.

RE2 (at least until REmake 2 comes out), RE3, RE:CVX, RE:O 1&2, REmake, RE0, RE4, Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles, RE5, RErev1, RE6, Umbrella Corps, RErev2 and RE7.

Or, short version, every game Capcom and the RE team consider canon. Which are all of the above.

I'll agree CV, RE4/5/6 and Zero get a bit too crazy but I don't pretend they don't exist. I kinda see the contextual and development reasons for why each game on the franchise was made the way it was and have come to terms with that.

(Ps.- Yes, Umbrella Corps is canon. It actually set ups the scene for RE7's endgame reveal)

0, 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica and 7

4 I would debate on and while I believe 5 is a good coop game I don't consider 5 and 6 entirely canon. The events that happened in them I'll consider part of the story but the way all the events unfold I don't consider canon. For example Chris being jacked enough that he punches a boulder into a volcano. Resident Evil 4 5 and 6 are more exaggerated stories from what you'd normally expect from the series.

To clarify the events happened but not the way the game depicts all of your actions. Kind of like how the RE2 remake is adjusting some elements of the game to be the absolute best it can be while following the same events. I'd like to think that the majority of the games will get the same treatment as RE2.

Depending on how RE2 is I'll probably consider it to be REmake > RE2 Remake > RE7

And yes I prefer the new Chris over the steroid abused gorilla he was in 5 and 6.

I don't consider RE: Operation Raccoon City canon at all considering one of the main story elements is you kill Leon.

Also hoping we get a remake of RE3. It would be absolutely thrilling playing a game being pursued be Nemesis in a fully rendered 3d Environment.

Yeah, I too was thinking if this remake of RE2 is as good as the remake of RE1, my own personal canon will be:

RE1 remake, RE2 remake, RE3: Nemesis (all others still ignored for one reason or another, such as terrible characters, ridiculous punching of boulders, not even zombies anymore).

Personally 0,1,2,3. The story ends for me with the destruction of Raccoon City.

I consider all of them canon except re reboot wannabe throwback simulator. Bsaa didnt force chris to team up with blue umbrella and make him turn into a umbrella corps clone wannabe in my book.

Re gaiden and re orc are automatically non-canon, might be worth mentioning.

I always had a problem including RE0 as a part of the "real" story (obviously by real I just mean... in my own personal opinion).

When we meet Rebecca in the very first RE, and also in the remake of RE1, she's basically a frightened inexperienced girl who's hiding/surviving in the mansion after getting separated from the rest of Bravo team. There's absolutely no indication that she has been through all the crap she goes through in RE0.

If RE0 is canon then when we meet Rebecca in the first game (or in the remake) then she should immediately explain to Chris everything she discovered in RE0, but she doesn't... because it didn't happen.

To me RE0 is like a spin-off.

I agree that it doesn't add up exactly but then again when RE1 was made they didn't know they will make something called RE0 in the future. But I understand how you might not include RE0 in the canon. If nothing else it's still better than RE4 and all the other atrocities.

all except 7 that sucked ass

Oh yeah, absolutely. Resident Evil 0 is one of the best games they made, I'd say it's the fourth best game out of the entire series (for me it goes 2, 1, 3, 0). It's also extremely difficult, even more difficult than the other Resident Evils. I think because they let you have a partner for the whole game, which means 2x the firepower, they made the enemies faster and harder.
Zero, Remake, 2, 3, Outbreak, Outbreak File #2, Dead Aim, Code Veronica, 4, 5, Revelations, Revelations 2 and 7.

Each RE game is happened in real universe except RE4. Because I dont know weapons named like black widow or crazy batterfly or other :ShotGun_Weapon_Item:hit in real life. And I can't imagine that in modern Spain could be an abandoned castle not being added to goverment registry etc. I like RE4 but in all RE timeline it looks like fantasy spin-off. Everything in the game is made to be stylish but real. Ada is secret spy with bright red dress and high heels at swamps. Really? Even f..g dog at the beginnig does superheroic landing... :steamfacepalm:

I really doubt everyone actually understands what "canon" means. Every RE Capcom made with a story that fits into the timeline is canon, whether we like it or not, and every RE with a story taking place on an alternate continuity/universe (or no story at all) is non-canon.

Canon: 0, 1, 2, 3, CV, 4, RER, 5, RER2, 6, 7, Outbreaks, Gun Survivor 1, GS4/Dead Aim.

Partially canon: REUC, REDC (Russia and Op Javier chapters are canon, the rest are modified retellings of 0-CV) Umbrella Corps (the background overall is canon, but the game has no real story)

Non-canon: ORC (confirmed as 'what if'), Gaiden (Leon dies so obviously can't be canon), Gun Survivor 2 (aka Claire's dream), Mercenaries 3D (no plot at all).

I'd gladly remove several games from the canon, but we don't decide what's canon and what not.
