Not entirely true. I can not play most of my ps1 games on the ps4, that includes the original trilogy. Be nicer if could have a 'remaster' of the original 3 so we can play them as they were originally intended.
You could run PS1 games on PS2, or GC games on Wii, thanks to backward compatibility (a nice feature lost in the past I guess, since for companies it's more profitable to make people re-buy the same games they already own each time a new platform comes out). But RE2 was never actually released on PS2. It was on PS1, PC, Dreamcast, N64 and GC.

Be warned that you can only really find RE2 by Sourcenext through, shall we say, "alternative" methods.
For me only one that aged badly is original RE1, I could play 2 and 3 all the time, but it isn't as fun when you know all item placements and puzzles.
