Basic gameplay question
Do we know yet whether this game is going to take a more Endless Ocean route where the creatures you encounter are 100% passive and you're never in danger from them, or a more Subnautica approach where some creatures are hostile?

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the actual "game" is.

What I'm seeing looks pretty as hell, but, it doesn't really tell me anything.
Do we have a research lab we're using? Are there vehicles? Do we need to gather materials or anything? Or is this basically just swimming around looking at the cool nature stuff?

I'm honestly hoping for the former, and the name kind of hints along those lines of it being a successor to the everblue series.
I know personally I loved Endless Ocean to death and would really love another game like it. Subnautica didn't really do it for me.

I'm the opposite. Endless Ocean was kind of pretty, but I was super bored with it. Subnautica I loved. It was great doing all that exploring and building. The lore you could find was well done, and it was neat trying to explore everything in a game where you didn't just shoot anything that moved.

Also my base had a crap ton of solar panels so I could have powered the whole damn planet. lol

I just hope that, although E-Line advertises this game with its previous game "Never Alone", it will NOT be the type of linear game that "Never Alone" is, in which you have essentially no decisions or alternatives and the only challenge is to quickly press keys in the right order to get jumps and escapes correct.

As a player who really liked the diving game ABZU for its exuberant, colorful underwater sceneries and the rather peaceful approach it takes I would hope for the following:

* Possibilities to admire a photorealistic underwater world without being under constant time pressure
* Realistic animal behaviour and ideally whales and dolphins which show some type of personality, for example in a way that they behave curiously, friendly, anxiously or aggressively towards divers depending on how you approach them and based on how you behaved towards them in previous encounters. Different individuals (and males/females/families) may have slightly different behaviour just as in reality.
* More focus on decisions and strategy than on super-precise controlling.
* Alternative approaches for solving tasks/puzzles (such as opening a blocked route vs. finding a second entrance/exit further away)
* An "Open world" approach which does not require you to dive one fixed route in every level.

It's a story driven game where you play as Mirai, the lead on an oceanic research team. You'll spend most of your time exploring and learning about the ocean and sealife, with some high stakes decisions to make along the way. It's more like Abzu and Endless Ocean than Subnautica in that you won't be crafting or focusing on survival. However, unlike Abzu, Beyond Blue is not fantastical - it's rooted in real science and inspired by Blue Planet II.

This playthrough that we did with IGN at Gamescom earlier this year should help paint a clearer picture for what you can expect with our game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wacB3SEK5xE

We'll be at PAX South next month with a playable demo in case any of you are there and interested in giving it a try!

Was kinda hoping for an Everblue 2 kinda game which was the predecessor to the Endless Ocean series.

But what you devs are doing sounds cool. The world really doesn't have enough sea exploration games. I've already wish listed it.

Anything to satisfy my Everblue 2 cravings since the cat (edit: went to the bath room? is that more appropriate?) on the PS2 ruining it and that was the only way I could play it.

That answers a lot of questions. Thank you!
