When you are going to get promoted, ideally you should have planned for improving your squad so you can compete. Biggest priority is making sure you have the best goalkeeper you can afford and build from the back.

Yes, i already read your guide, but still confuse, maybe it needs time to fully understand it, my team always got crushed even when i use defensive tactics, maybe i should buy GK and Defender first like you said, i just cant win with this players

Defence is automated in the game, you only get control over the attacking options, so your skill as a player can help mitigate lower quality players in that regard. So you should concentrate on making sure you have a great keeper. As a guide, check the average rating of attackers in the league and make sure your goalkeeper is better. Then make sure your defenders are good enough. If you are struggling, a 5-3-2 formation gives you a lot of flexibility. Also be prepared to struggle for a while when promoted, your goal when promoted should be to survive and compete, building up your team to have a crack at promotion the season after.
