I totalled everyone on my first full season and got promoted, now I am the one getting totalled by almost every team plus my players morale is getting really low. Every other team has a full silver roster while mine is almost entirely bronze. WTF did I do wrong?

This is a pretty simple game. I usually have semi-silver squad at the beginning of 2 season and semi-gold in the end of 2 season. You just need to follow this 2 rules:
1. Don't waste coach cards for just keeping coach happy. Keep collecting it (especially young coach cards) until you have enough to upgrade coach to the next colour. If coach starts to complain about development just fire him and get better one or use manager card.
2. At the beginning buy a lot of old players 32-35 years with ~40 stars (you need them just for 1 season and for getting better coaches, once you have silver coaches you will fire all this guys), they are cheap but you need quite a lot since they don't have enough stamina. Don't waste moneys on anything else. Get good report with fans and increase tickets price to 7-9.

this game is bit broken. Having ~40 stars squad you can beat any team at all in single match, which allows to win league cup in the very first season by preserving energy drinks for cup matches only.

Rookie mistake. The strategy seems to be to strategically throw (intentionally lose) games in your first couple of seasons while you build up your team, in order to avoid being promoted until you are ready. I've got the opposite problem, got back to back promotions and am now bossing Dortmund, Bayern etc. with my bronze players and a total team strength of 47. They got gold star player with 80 strenght, yet when I set my team to play defend before the game, the worst result so far was a draw.

Game is fun, but the balancing seems off as it seems way too easy.
