I only have one vital question before I pick up this game....
Is this a remake specifically of the game where UN Owen was Her comes from? (aka the song that is the basis for the Criterion Collection Classic, Ronald McDonald Insanity)

I hear great things about the game, and I'm addicted to that song (even without Ronald being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrifying) but I wanna make absolutely sure this is the remake of it since I guess the OG version isn't available

It's complicated.
Due to copyright reasons, it's not really a remake. The story happens after the 6th game (EoSD), and it assumes you know about it already.

The only "remake" side of it, is that the same characters and locations happen in the same order with the exception of stage 1 and 4,to keep things fresh.
For example, in the original game, Patchouli appears as a main boss, but since here she is a playable character, the midboss from the original game appears as the main in this one.

the only thing you could consider as a "remake" in fdf, are the visuals.

If you want to play the original game, it has been discontinued so you'll have to download it from moriyashrine.org it's the 6th entry aka the first windows game.

If you're completely unfamiliar with the series, don't worry. The 6th entry is a great starting point, althought it has some problems with windows 10 which I don't mind assisting you with it if you ran into the infamous 1k fps bug.

expanding about the main series, the first 1-5 entries are exclusive to the pc-98,their lore is not really taken into accounting for the windows games, and they are rough and unpolished amateur shoot em ups (with the exception of the first) so if you just enjoy shmups, go ahead if you want.

also if you're not sure if you'll like Touhou, I recommend starting with the later original games rather than a fangame, if you don't want to go trough EoSD. These later entries are accesible and available right here on steam, althought you'll have to manually install an english patch on them
you see, the reason is because FDF games have a really "heavy" movement, compared to the fast and agile movement of the main series, and also these fangames usually uses remixes of the original songs, which could cause a shock when changing from fangame to the actual musical style of its original creator, althought these are just recommendations, and you're free to enjoy Touhou and shmups however you like.

Actually found the official version along with a couple patches, and yeah honestly it's more or less exactly what I hoped for since in No More Heroes 2 (and 1 sorta but with robots) there's a bullet hell shooter that kinda looks like a more pastelle version of this and I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loved playing that. So far, I'm terrible at it but it's fun. But I expect to have a Ronald McDonald seizure when I get to that one point with that song

But yeah the only reason I found out about these games is because my friend reccomended Touhou Luna Nights (I probably screwed up the name) and then I cam across that song and my brain had ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2008 ytp ptsd or some ♥♥♥♥ because I was just like "THIS IS FROM AN ACTUAL THING?!!!!" and I had to know more

This a good or bad thing? I always found FDF easier than the main series, perhaps partly because the bullet hitboxes feel very friendly and visible compared to what you tend to deal with in older 2hu especially.

Glad to kbow you're having fun! The song you are looking for appears in that game, althought it appears only in the extra stage, which is unlockef by completing a 1cc on normal or above.
If you don't know what a 1cc is, it's basically "1 Credit Clear" which translates to "complete the game without using continues"

Althought I recommend using them freely, instead of having a tunnel vision on the "I want to unlock the extra". Mostly so you can expect what the bosses are gonna throw at you next time instead of using your reaction time to dodge the bullets.

Neither.
It's just harder to switch back to the original games
it's like playing touhou 8 then going back to the later entries, as the movement does in fact gets polished with each entry. You don't know how many times I died because I was playing FDF a lot and got used to the movement. It takes like one or two runs to get used to the movement in a specific game to me.

now, responding to the "is being slower a bad thing?" the answer is "not necessarily"
Some people play aggresively and use Marisa due to the high damage output and speed, which an experienced player can use to their advantage to quickly change their positioning, althought there are more defensive people that like to take their time to increase odds on surviving a run, and that's fine too!

althought if you play Lunatic, you don't really have a window to be slow, so slower characters have a harder time dodging bullets
*however* slower characters can focus at dodging since their attacks are usually homing, meanwhile faster ones struggle a lot when damaging the boss, as there is no fast character with a homing attack.
Hope it wasn't too confusing to read, lowkey just woke up :reimu5:

PS: Yes, fdf games are easier due to the high ammount of visual effects, that in a shoot em up end up being translated as "visual pollution" for tryhards. Althought that does not mean the game is a cakewalk. This is the hardest entry in the FDF games though, specially when talking about the extra
god lord, the extra stage in the first FDF is the definition of cruelty, due to one spell literally being a memory match and the rest being complete rng with low standards and A LOT of visual pollution.

Funnily enough, it's one of my favorite stages to watch, because playing it is quite exhausting :reimu2:
