Whether the DVs have realized it or not, they've created a monster. There are a lot of people who want the systems and realism developed further. It's absolutely wonderful if your main goal is to provide the experience and awe that satisfies many players out there. But when you ask, "do you have what it takes to be an astronaut?", some of us hard core simmers out there (and actual pilots, engineers, who knows maybe actual astronauts) say "Well let me find out... can you build us a version of this spacecraft that's as accurate as some of the airplane flight sims out there?" If there were enough people willing to pay for a version like that... I think it will appear someday. At least, I hope it will!
The AGS is currently out of scope (but who knows down the line), its a brutal beast to tame. NASSP can use the licensed emulators to execute the real code (having every system well integrated with the computers) due to being open source etc, but Reentry can't due to licensing.
The AOT is something I want to implement between 1.0 -> 2.0, once I get some of the internal optics logic complete (after that I can re-use most of the implementation from the CSM).
As touched upon in this thread, the largest priority is to create a game that will let you experience the early era of space flight as a whole. I want to ensure that systems will get an implementation in one way or another as long as it can be quite realistic to operate - I still try to make every implementation as realistic as I can, with realistic panels, systems and procedures, trying to justify "do you have what it takes to be an astronaut?" - however, I do not think my mind and skills are enough to create what the most hardcore simmers want (being one myself). But the steps needed to get closer and closer will be iterative. It's only one dev working on this as a passion project and the priorities will need to match that workload, and with the current scope being the wide aspect of space flight vs. focusing on one program only.
NASSP for Orbiter does its job very well to simulate this down to the deepest level available in a computer sim, and a lot of players use Reentry to get familiar and then move to NASSP.
