Thanks for your honest feedback!
This is something I have been working very hard on, even with what you already have in the game (I assume you run the high resolution Earth textures set from Main Menu -> Settings?).
However, this is in-fact not trivial at all. The Unity engine has a limitation on 8k/16k textures. The high resolution Earth textures in game is 64k, meaning things are split up into smaller section.
A 64k Earth Texture requires 64k color maps, normal maps, night time maps and cloud layer maps, meaning that the Earth textures alone consists of hundreds of textures requires 12 gigabyte of memory and a minute of loading time (and is most of the games size on the SSD), while balancing on the borders of the engine capabilities.
I will always try to improve my game, and if there is anything else I can do to get better Earth graphics, I will implement it. However, what you see now is the absolute best I can do unfortunately :(
I do have to admit, it does seem like your pushing the Unity engine to it's limit's, this is the only Unity game I ever played that pushes my GPU hard. The spacecraft do look lovely, especially the interiors (I remember once you said in a video the Apollo command module is a beast to render and that seems true).
I guess I will just have to get used to it. As I said I do love this game and will continue to play it regardless but I just was really hoping there was a way to improve on it.
Please keep up the good work, I can't wait to see how the game continues to evolve and improve in the future.
