Graphics issues
As noted in my other message I've just started trying out this game.

One thing I noticed in playing the Mercury tutorials is that the escape tower is just a red blob in my game. It doesn't look anything like the way it does on the Steam game page pics - ie no shadows or anything. I looked at it in the cockpit view and thought that looks a bit pants, so went into the external view and its the same - no shadows just red. No sort of advanced rendering on it at all. The rest of my game seems to look ok though. Its just the escape tower that looks plainly different from how it should do - yet I have all the graphics settings on max?

Thanks In advance.

Could you verify the game? Check your drivers?

Thank you for playing our wonderful Sim, From Main Menu go to Settings, then look for Graphics, once there see what options you have selected and which are not, also the textures level please share here that info for helping you better.

I dont think I had the reflection probes on, no idea what they are lol. I have adjusted my graphics to max and will test again tonight. My specs are very good Ryzen 7, 16Gb Ram, GTX1060 card (thats a bit old). Should be fine for this game though runs MS Flight Sim and Cyberpunk perfectly.

Great to hear! The Reflection Probes are responsible for ambient light and reflections.

Yes - should that not be activated by default? It makes a massive difference to the look of the game.

Well done on the world terrain views from space by the way they look amazing, love the lights as well. I got plenty of chance to admire them when I got stuck in orbit in my last Mercury tutorial lol. Very nice views, even though I was about to run out of cabin pressure and RCS fuel lol.

Yeah they make the game look better, but they eat performance

Had this graphics issue again with the final tutorial exam for the Mercury spacecraft - the tower rendered ok in the external view but in the internal view it just looks like unshaded red blobs again:

As a side issue I think the shaking for the Mercury spacecraft on ascent looks a bit off. The cockpit is shaking one way but the escape tower is shaking in another way? They should be vibrating/shaking together in sync. Just looks a bit strange, as if the cockpit and escape tower are not joined together.

Trying my best to create the experience but its very difficult from a technical perspective. The interior and exterior is rendered independently to compensate for the small size world due to floating point limitations in the Unity engine.

I might remodel the tower pretty soon to get a better visual model of it.

It looked ok in the other tutorial missions. It is just the last exam where it changed back to unshaded for some reason. Cant be sure but my render settings looked like they dropped from Ultimate to High themselves? Is there a mechanic in the game that reduces graphics level if the game starts to get too slow? I cant see why that would be the case with my Ryzen 7 though.

I might have to see if it is rendered with shading on in the other tutorials again.

Either way changing the render settings back to Ultimate didnt change the look of the tower. Unless it has to be done before you load the mission? I changed the setting mid-mission.

In my current mission the tower is back to rendering ok. I have no idea why it would turn off the shading in one mission and be fine in another? It would look a lot better if it was rendered in 3d along with t he cockpit so when you move around the cockpit the tower changes orientation.

Regarding other graphics comments whilst I am on, I would love to see the steam coming from the rockets as they launch, and the umbilical disconnecting. Also would like to be able to start a mission well before launch and see the entrance gantry retracted etc. Just adds more immersion.

(Edit I noticed later that this steam is present in Apollo launches, just not Mercury. I did notice the tower moving back for first time though recently, thats cool)

I did do a night launch in a Mercury capsule, one of the tutorial missions, but for some reason the graphics were not half as good as the day launches - no trees, weird artifacts, on the horizon, and terrible terrain rendering. Just looked very poor in comparison to the lovely day launches.

One final comment about graphics - dont like the Mercury inflatable bag graphics much especially the bottom of it looks a bit pants tbh. Is that not meant to be the heatshield? Because I read the heat shield was just lowered by the bag not detached? Maybe adding some scorching effects etc to the craft and heatshield after reentry would be cool.
