Humans and Aliens Working Together
For the first time in Firaxis’s XCOM series, human agents are teaming up with the aliens who once invaded our world. Not only working with the ADVENT hybrids as they did in War of the Chosen, but also a Sectoid, a Muton, and a Viper.

Together they are working to keep the peace in City 31, meant to be a model of peace in the world as it finds itself 5 years after XCOM 2. Not everyone is happy with the new order, and it looks like there are aliens who aren’t happy with the way things are either. Chimera Squad is working to keep the city from dissolving into anarchy.

Just as there’s a range of views in City 31, there’s a range of views on this among fans! This thread is for discussion of this situation, what it means for the lore and the gameplay. Any viewpoint on the game and background can be shared, as long as it is within the forum rules, Steam Discussions rules, and the ground rules of this thread. Other threads on this subject will be locked or merged at moderator discretion. However, any discussion of really specific/detailed bits of gameplay can (and perhaps should) be in a separate thread. A moderator will hopefully notice if it’s getting too focussed and advise you to start a separate thread.

Ground Rules

These ground rules are in place to help clarify how the general rules apply to this discussion, and to avoid discussion becoming too heated or going around in circles.

  1. This is for discussion of this game, not any real-world parallels or politics.
  2. Everyone can share their view, and everyone can react to other people’s views, but no-one gets to insist that they have the one true understanding of anything.
  3. If a particular bit of conversation keeps going around in circles, agree to disagree and move on.
  4. This is not Warhammer 40K roleplay. It’s not any sort of roleplay. Keep it XCOM-related, and keep grounded. Referring to aliens as ‘xenos’ is going to make us think you’re dragging in something else that doesn’t belong here.
  5. This thread is about this element of the premise of the game, not about having set characters.

Edited to Add: Enough with the World War 2. It's not only perilously political, but we've gone around that circle several times now.

Personally, I think it's a nice unique twist for THIS game to have unique abilities... But I really hope they don't have aliens making up a large part of the players team in XCOM 3.

I like Patchwork, she seems like a cool character.

Makes complete sense. 15-20 years of ADVENT control and Elder propaganda had most of humanity pro-alien as a result of all the technological advancements and higher quality of life. After Elder control was broken and the Aliens were free of their manipulation and control, many took up arms with humanity when the truth got out.

5 years later and a city and police force of humans and aliens is easily believable as most of humanity were already pro-alien and used to having them around. Even after the war when racial tensions would have escalated and pockets of alien and human terrorists both would have formed, it's not a stretch at all if people actually paid attention.

Honestly I hope XCOM 3 expands on this further, whatever Elder/worse threat shows up to threaten earth, have the humans and aliens have to work together to defend everything they had built together.

A little worried about what it means in terms of classes and enemies in XCOM 3. I'm confident they'll be able to pull out new enemies, but I'm worried about missed potential of leaving behind previous enemies. In terms of classes I'm a little worried they'll move towards the aspect of more classes. This is fine as long as each one is unique and not Copy paste with minor alterations. Time will tell I suppose.

xcom mods are like wearing sunglasses that make you see stuff differently. it doesn't actually change the aliens/human characters.

love how as always you ignore everything said and only pick out 1 word you disagree with and then say nonsense that make little to no sense/wrong.
*Somewhat*(meaning not fully), 1/2 alien Skirmishers were in it (Canon and were characters and discriminated against as should for story and accuracy).
Not to mention he doesn't say Story says *Squad Mates* and therefore having alien Squad Mates even if added by mod are ..... still Squad Mates 0_0 even more so since entire squad of previous games were not characters but made up in players imagination (minus the Introduction of 1 reaper+skirmisher (poor templar doesn't even get 1 :( )) .

I'm very happy that we have officially the alien in team, whit this change is possible make a new strategy, and I'm curios to see the class that the alien use in this game. I hope that we can get the alien squad mates into the XCOM 3 too.

I think that is more sense that human and alien work together for some reason:
1) that Aark say into the earth maybe exist a lot people that are pro-alien, yes that when they saw the broadcast they get very angry and I think that next some time they will give a second chance.
2) next the defeat of elder the Advent fight each other and the not sentient alien make chaos on the city. Some sentient alien help the people for survive to this chaos (see the muton of this game) or lost the will to fight.
3) I think the most important thing: Verge, I think that he is the key about the collaboration between the human and alien, because he was the first alien that helped the humanity (I hope that will explain more into the game)

ah this is the my theory

I think its silly and ruins the XCOM vibe for me. Maybe it would be easier to accept if they trailer was not so overly happy and "funny". XCOM have always been at its best when its mankind vs the alien invaders.
I see a lot of people like the whole aliens being friendly and I also get a mass effect vibe (a game I really enjoy) but I honestly dont think it fits XCOM.
Going to try the game but it really needs to win me over. Here to hoping this is just a silly spin off and XCOM 3 wont have friendly alien fixed squad mates (dont mind friendly aliens being a feature but make it a choice so one can chose NOT to ally with those monsters).

Working with former enemy was fresh with Enkidu and Gilgamesh, after that it was just same story over and over again. Turning enemy into bad boy(snake) ally is common theme.
Gameplay wise it offers new options on tactical front, like vipers can snake into air vents, Mutons can redesign interiors... cool stuff.
You can always introduce more alliens, more hybrid, or like real mutans/cyborgs creating new enemies with even more tentacles to grasp.

If you expand storytelling having real alliens makes rich background, with muton workers union mutiny demanding equal pay for equal job, or in game racist scanding "ET go home" or complaining about viper nurses stealing our jobs.

I hope that Chimera does not cancels XCOM3: Hostile Territory.

I thought XCOM 3 was called 'A Tentative Peace?'
