What do the green and red shields on the Breach Points mean?
I did the tutorial twice, there is no manual as far as I know, and I can't find anything online. So am I blindly missing something, or is this just a puzzle for us to solve? I feel like the icons are supposed to be telling me something about the different breach points, and I have a gut feeling that green=good and red=bad, but that's all I can gather from it. Any help would be appreciated, even if it is accompanied with merciless mocking and derision (in other words, even if it is a stupid question, please at least tell me the answer as well).

P.S. -- This is also my first XCOM game, so if this is a mechanic that I am expected to recognize from earlier titles, please let me know.

Thanks, all!

I think it's the number of enemies visible once you pass the breach point, and whether at least one of them is hostile.

If I'm right, please note that it has no impact on the number of enemies in the room. If there is 6 enemies behind the door, 4 visible from the first door and 4 visible from the second door, that means some of those are the same, not that there is 2 extra enemies appearing (this I'm sure of, because I restarted quite a few mission and changed breach point, and I didn't see enemies position change).

Not sure though. It wasn't in previous games. That said I finished the game twice and it seems coherent with what I saw.

The green shield should mean that there are no agressive enemies, the red skull means there are some agressive enemies. The number beside should be the amount of enemies at that breach point

The number is the number of enemies that can be seen from that breach point, though some of those may not be visible to some of the breachers because of how they're arranged during the breach.
