Technical Issues with Game
This thread is to collect reports of problems with running the game, crashing, etc.

Things that are widely reported on this forum will be added to this post, along with any fixes that anyone has come up with.

Feel free to report new things, or new details of existing things, in this thread. Other threads reporting issues may be merged here if they have new info, or closed.

This not an official bug report venue. If you actually want help from the publisher, or to make sure they know about it, 2K Support are at support.2k.com. You may have to jump through hoops, the usual for tech support, but in the end they should make a note of the problem and it should get back to the devs. Please note that they are a little backlogged at the moment (can't imagine why).

Missing Equipment

Some users have reported equipment disappearing, including basic equipment like the standard guns. This may or may not be related to "Magical Multiplying Medkits" below; many people reporting either report both.

Reports suggest this is triggered by moving a more advanced weapon from one character to another, or possibly removing it from a character.

A workaround that costs in-game resources has been reported - buy an android, and the basic equipment returns (for SMG, shotgun and assault rifle - sorry to pistol users).

It has also been reported that this is somehow related to moving epic weapons between characters leading to duplication of other weapons, or that it is related to using the unequip button in the pre-mission loadout screen.

Some users have also linked this to characters unlocking additional utility slots.

This may or may not be related to basic equipment appearing as 'x2' in the equipment selection screen.

Further reports suggest that this has a chance of being triggered whenever you unequip a unique weapon, regardless of prior research, skills, training, or using the "unequip all" button or not.

Character Abilities Missing

When characters lose their equipment, they may also lose access to their abilities.

This may be related to using the unequip button in the pre-mission loadout screen

Characters unable to equip armour/equipment

Similar to missing equipment, sometimes characters seem to lose the ability to equip armour or breach and utility items. Some reports include the character seeming to gain extra utility slots.

Some users have also linked this to characters unlocking additional utility slots.

This may or may not be related to basic equipment appearing as 'x2' in the equipment selection screen, or to using the unequip button in the pre-mission loadout screen.

Crashing on Enemy Reinforcement

Some users are reporting that the game sometimes crashes when reinforcements are supposed to appear.

Magical Multiplying Medkits

People report their base inventory having steadily growing numbers of medkits, and possibly other equipment. This may be related to "Missing Equipment" above; many people reporting either report both.

Poor performance or being told you don't meet system requirements

Some users report the game saying they don't meet the minimum requirements when they do.

Some users have surprisingly poor performance.

In both cases, many of these users have 'hybrid' graphics in their computer - an integrated GPU (such as on the CPU) and a dedicated GPU. If that is the case, either or both problems may be solved by using your GPU control panel to tell the game to run on the dedicated GPU.

We're Walking In The Air

Sometimes one or more characters end up seemingly hovering above the ground during a mission. This appears to be purely cosmetic.

Can't select unit for breach

Sometimes the game refuses to allow you to put one of your units in a breach slot, stating requirements aren't met or "unknown error" when there's no stated requirement.

Failure to Start

Sometimes the game just won't launch after pressing play in the launcher. This can be for a number of reasons, because the launcher doesn't show you the errors.

Find the xcom.exe file in the game files (binaries\Win64\xcom.exe). If it's not there, check your antivirus log to see if it killed it. If it is, run it, and see what errors you get. If there's an issue with libraries, try running the VisualC redist that comes with the game, (Launcher\vc_redist.x64.exe). If there's other problems, then hopefully someone can chip in with advice for those.

Stun 1 ineffective

Stun works on actions, rather than turns. Stun 2 should keep an enemy down for their whole turn. Stun 1 should leave them only able to do 1 action.

There are several reports of enemies affected by Stun 1 getting up on their turn and using two actions, such as move and shoot.

Holding back the waves

Some users have reported, in missions where you must survive a number of waves of reinforcements, that the reinforcements stop arriving. When the reinforcements get to the top of the timeline, it just moves back to the bottom again with no reinforcements appearing.

Can't run offline

The launcher requires an internet connection for some reason (it actually looks like the launcher itself is web-based so it has no UI if it can't grab it from the web).

However, you can run the game's actual executable file directly. It's in the game's Steam files at Binaries\Win64\xcom.exe - though you probably want to create a shortcut to make it easier, and add the launch options -noRedScreens -review (to actually run it in consumer mode rather than developer mode).

Windows Key doesn't work in-game

Feature, not bug, it seems. There's an option in-game for this, and it's set on by default.

Breach items can't be used... except they can

Sometimes the agent in the second slot shows as being unable to use their breach item, even though the rule is that it can be used only from that slot. Reports suggest that you can in fact use it, even though the UI says you can't.

This might be triggered by putting the agent in another slot, and then moving them to the second slot.

Flashbangs affect everyone

The tooltip for flashbangs suggests your own units are not affected when you use one. They are affected.

No extra equipment slot on masterwork armour

The user interface seems to suggest masterwork armour will give a further utility item slot over and above that of enhanced armour. It does not do so.

This is commonly thought to be unclear text in game, and that +1 is just referring to the +1 from enhanced armour, not an extra +1.

Berserk makes melee enemies attack your own troops, not theirs

Berserk, such as from Verge's Battle Madness, will make enemies with ranged attacks shoot someone on their own side. However, melee-only enemies will instead charge one of your own units and attack them.

Game sometimes detected by tools as X-COM: Enforcer

There are reports of the game being detected by other tools, including the nVidia control panel, as X-COM: Enforcer.

Is anyone else being buried in medikits?
This has got to be a bug. I bought one or two, then a while later I realized I had five so I was like "cool, guess I got those from a mission or something, I'll just give one to every squad member." Then after the next mission I had about eleven, now I'm up to at least twenty. It's getting kind of ridiculous, honestly...

Have other items been disappearing? Other reports of this that I've seen have included other items disappearing.

The game crashed already a couple of times when applying some special effects (the Viper's venom and the mind control stuff)

My game crashes more or less every second reinforcement wave; might be every time the enemies use ropes at climbing spots.

I'm not sure yet, but I think I may have noticed a correlation between crashes and dashing with my last action before they arrive. Too small a sample to really be sure.

I am getting a repeated crash on reinforcements. It is one of these 3 wave missions, and the game just hangs while waiting and I have to use the task manager to kill it. Reloading doesn't help - it just happens again.

Something I noticed with the "Lose of X Weapon Type Bug" is that I now have 25 med-kits. I built a few but I definitely didn't build 25 of them.
can you pl nerf the amount of enemies that there are on the sacred coil mission as well increasing the squad size of the group? and one more thing pl reduce the amount of time that the research or whtever takes place 8 days is too long

I have had the disappearing items issue, which is a challenge. Claymore's standard weapon disappeared after a mission in which he was not involved. It maybe has something to do with characters coming out of training? I previously fixed by loading back several missions, but I don't really want to have to do that often.

I had one hangup/crash during an enemy turn with reinforcements, but that's worked fine since that one crash.

I have also been getting the graphics popup, but the game works fine once I close it.

Yeah, research and the Sacred Coil mission. I know XCOM is not known for its long, detailed tech trees but needing to spend a month per gun is insane.

My game won't launch at all. it shows the tab at the bottom but nothing happens when clicking on the tab, and when hovering over the tab all that shows up is a black screen.

Sometimes enemies will go to move but then be stuck in place for a minute. Then suddenly their turn is over and they're where they meant to move to and have taken their action without telling you what happened.

I'm getting some weird behaviour. Whenever Zephyr uses lockdown on an enemy that is targeting something other than her, she kicks them to death before they attack. But then, after the enemy is dead, the attack goes off anyway? What's up with that.
