So do I but I guess this emblem reflects the diverse nature of the squad you're controlling.

And likely also reflects that the city you're policing is a Trial run for the coixistence of Aliens and humans on earth (without the elders) that needs to work. Because keep in mind that XCOM2 is set 20 years after the Fall of XCOM to the Aliens and the Elders pretty much normalized alien species operating on a large scale across all earth cities and continents. Even the radio dude complains that Advent Burger didn't have a linguistics course, which ended up with him having a super hard time with all alien costumers. Aliens have been in deep for so long that it makes sense the aftermath of Xcom2 is figuring out if Anarchy can lead to order or chaos between species.

Is there a single good reason you didn't put that through google translate before making this thread?

A more accurate translation would be "Opposing Forces" (or actually "Forces that Oppose") which makes sense in that XCOM now includes the very aliens they originally fought... (and are fighting dissidents of the original war), but much like Vigilo Confido (literally watching in trust) I'm sure they picked it to look latin-ish, but yet be identifiable as english words in order to convey a pseudo meaning (i.e. it's video game Latin)

It's probable Vigilo Confido is meant to convey Vigilance & Confidence (or Vigilant & Confident) and Diversis Viribus is meant to be seen as Diverse Forces.

...and if you really want to go down the rabbit hole of XCOM Latin there was Enemy WIthin that also had Mutare Ad Custodiam which is Change to the Guardians (or Protectors?) and Bellator In Machina (which was surely meant to be The War Machine but is probably better translated as Warrior in the Machine)

Automated translations will take "the flesh is willing but the spirit is weak" and give you "the meat is good but the vodka is bad". A human translator who understands both languages will do a better job of preserving the context.

Diversis Viribus => Diverse Forces

Vigilo Confido => This is using the present active indicative tense; " watching and trustworthy" is a literal translation. "Watching in Confidence" is better, or "Secret Watch" for brevity.

Mutare ad custodiam => [We] Change to Protect
Bellator in Machina => Warrior [in/made from] the Machine

To be sure I looked into an ancient latin book called "L'Anemanno di Quintino Guanciali" (and its official translation) who mention "Diversis Viribus" in the text, and yes it means "Diverse forces".

The new logo makes perfectly sense given the fact aliens and humans are cooperating togheter now, honestly i think it's cool.

It's funny how the Roman Latin language, part of an empire that crushed its enemies under its foot and forced its way of life on others, also happens to be the choice to inspire new beginnings for the struggling humans opposed to the rule of another empire that crushed its enemies, and is forcing its way of life on others as well.

I wonder, will the alien language be used on logos to inspire humans an aliens in the future to another alien threat when the advent are crushed and under threat from a new empire? xD

Diversis Viribus = To Different Forces (Dative)
Vigilo Confido = I Watch I Trust (first person present indicative)
Mutare ad Custodiam = To Change in order to Protect (present active infinitive, Accusative)

I'm not sure if the "confido" in Vigilo Confido refers to trust. I'm thinking it refers more towards "confidential" than "confident", so basically someone "watching from the shadows".

Because just as in real life the organization doesn't actually have that goal. No group devotes millions of dollars for the betterment of mankind. If you follow the money there is always an ulterior motive and a profiteering goal involved. Even charities pay out a fraction of what they earn to actually help people, existing only as free income for the staff who get paid six figures.

The goal of the group is to crush all opposition to the plan they have for a society that won't rebel against them by pandering to what those people want at the time. But soon... very soon... they will begin the process of subversion and control...
