When playing Kings of Dragon Pass - I would often base my clan name off decisions I'd made in the game's prologue. Names that might reflect the clan's skills, preferred deities or things they were known for. It also helped me remember what my intended play style was if I took a break and came back to it later!

Sometimes I name a clan after a goal -- Southfarer, Far Wanderer, Bad Choice (okay, that last might not be very "cool"), Mint (... I'm trying to get the splitter achievement and naming clans for prolific plants). In that vein: Bloody Sword, Burning Banner, Spirit Tamer, Spirit Master, etc?
