Windows 10? Why??
I don't understand why a developer would make this Windows 10 only given about a 1/3rd of Steam users still use Windows 7. Especially considering this game isn't very graphically advanced I cannot possibly see why the developers would make this choice.

This, of all games, is literally the first game I haven't been able to play because of Windows 10 requirement. Even AAA games still have Windows 7 support.

It's a real shame, I really enjoyed King of Dragon pass and this looked like a great successor.. but I guess I won't be buying this anytime soon.

Yeah, I bought this without suspecting that I might not be able to play this game on Win 7. Big disappointment. I think its because the team is really small and needs to keep within a tight budget.

@Kallisti: They said they had to reprogram the game from scratch, because they couldn't get the port to work. If Six Ages is anywhere near as good as KoDP (which the reviews indicate) its easily worth the price tag. Also, Steam takes a huge chunk of the revenue, probably more than the mobile play stores.

I felt completely blindsided when I installed and it said Windows 10.... like wtf?

I have no idea why Steam doesn’t let you know ahead of time. They know the system requirements and they know your system.
Well if I may chip in on the whole "OMG WHY WIN10" talk that has been posted a few times already. Firstly I'd like to say that I am not a massive fan of win10 either, nor a game developer but a pretty reasonable reason to make it win10 only is that microsoft is pulling the plug on it next year. I'd also wager that those making the call on win10 only have had good reasons for it, future/ease of support, time investment, economy and so on.

So it will not be supported anymore so would it not then be a somewhat drain on already limited resourses to make it qoute on qoute "backwards" compatible to win7 and by extension win8/8.1? Besides as I have come to understand it and to adress those asking why it took so long to port from mobile is that the port simply did not work, so they had to basically "remake" the game for pc thus explaining the price hike aswell.

Saying that because AAA games have win7 support then this pretty small developer and publisher must have it, a bit backwards no?

I love KoDp played it on mobile, steam and even the original that I managed to aquire from the dark corners of the internet, and I really love Six ages it's fantastic really consider it a great succesor to KoDp

Now I completly understand not wanting to change your OS for one game but to almost demand that the game be made to suit your prefered OS is a bit entitled, in my opinion. Win7 is going the way of xp and vista and things are moving on, support is going to drop and soon even the AAA studios will move on from it. It will be a sad day but it is inevitable.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I glad to have walked into this thread before buying it. Unfortunately I have very expensive research software installed on my Win 7 desktop PC and cannot afford to upgrade, like, EVER.
Guess I'll get it on mobile then.

Not being supported anymore doesn't mean that everyone's OS will just stop working and people will be forced to switch to Win 10 immediately. I'm not planning on switching just because of that, I imagine neither are a lot of people who have stuck with Win 7 thus far. And it's not just the AAA developers and publishers who still support Win 7, so do pretty much all the indie ones. All of this is irrelevant anyway, the game came out now, not after the support ended. Developers still released their games for XP years after support for it ended, so writing off Win 7 already is extremely premature.

No one is demanding anything, it just seems rather odd for a super niche game like this to arbitrarily limit its audience based on OS, and one that is still used by a good chunk of people. If anything, there's more incentive to make it as widely available as possible.

Good to know. I totally missed this info. I am lucky to stumbled upon this here even though I only came to the forum to read what people's impression were after KoDP. A shame that this is the case.

Sad I can't play this game on PC, but I appreciate that you devs aren't getting on some high horse about the limitation.

It is what it is. Thanks for not chastising my choice in OS.

Wow, this really sucks. Game looks good too. Oh well, scratch this game off the list.

Disappointing that it's only for Win 10, had to remove from my wishlist - I can understand why Win 7 as support is ending soon, although it must be very irritating for folk still using it. But why not compatible with 8.1, which has another 3 years? Shame, I was looking forward to this.

I just want my money back.

Way to make people not care about your new game I guess.
Ulsark Oct 18, 2019 @ 2:07pm
Even microsoft retroactively added some windows 7 support for directx12.
Antario Oct 19, 2019 @ 12:47pm
jesus windows 7 is out of support in 3 months, get with the times.

end of support = you're reaallly far behind
Darkhosis Oct 19, 2019 @ 1:10pm
It says Windows 10 on requirements. The $19.99 price threw me off a bit, for sure.

Well, $21.60 after I include Texas sales tax.

Luckily for people in the EU, price is only 16.99 (or $18.95 USD equiv). VAT included, ofc. So no adding $5 for that 25% VAT in Sweden or the 27% in Hungary.

Texas should pass a law where all prices must have sales tax included. Laugh.
