The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is not a typical Lego Game, its more like, when Lego Worlds was in EA (Early Access) but with The LEGO Movie 2 elements, like Characters, Worlds and Buildlings.

Controlls are better and this time also keyboard friendly. It works a bit like in Lego Worlds but simpler.

You have a lot of Quests to do, they are very simple so that even smaller childs could do it. With every Quest you complete you can get prints for buildings, a lila stone (on other Lego Games they where golden or red) or some items that need a shop to open it. (bad tongues would say "a few typs of loot boxes" but you cant buy them with real money ^^). The last reward can also be found with golden chests you find by explore the map.

if you liked Lego Worlds before it was released then this is a game for you, if you didn´t liked Lego Worlds but the normal Lego Games with a full Story and Gameplay, then you better skip this or watch a few Youtube Gameplayes before buying it, else you could also try it out and refund between 2h of playtime.

I like it but I also liked Worlds alot when it was in EA.

Not the original Speaker from the Movie.
Its a bit too much Copy & Past from Lego Worlds (same tools, Travel around Planets and so on)
Full Audio in english EA Version but on the Full Release no Audio in all languages.
Lag of Content (2h already 4 planets - you have to replay for getting more builds later but still very fast)

If you come to The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame expecting the usual structure of these games, you will be disappointed. A good chunk of that is NOT here.

In the normal structure, missions/levels and their associated cutscenes form chapters of the story, and these are tied together by hub world tasks in the intermissions between levels. Levels have Story Modes and Free Play Modes. Story restricts you to characters that are given, while Free Play allows you to switch to other collected characters. Puzzle solving requires you to switch to different characters to use their various abilities. Most collectibles (characters, vehicles, Gold Bricks, Red Bricks) in levels are reachable only with character abilities not available in Story Mode.

In this game, every place is essentially a hub world area. Areas are LEGO Worlds-like, completely rendered as LEGOs. The story is RPG style, a series of quests and other tasks plus available sidequests. There are collecibles to be had, but most are found through a mildly annoying game mechanic.

The Gold Bricks that other games in the series awards for completing tasks are here styled as sparkly purple Master Bricks. Accumulate enough Master Bricks and you unlock the next area in the game, styled as a planet in the galaxy. Master Bricks are not only awarded for story quests and sidequests, but also found out in the open in the world. The map handily marks the location of every one, even if you have yet to unlock the ability to get them. NPC quests are also flagged as large grey question marks both on the map and floating high in areas.

This is only the second LEGO game (other one being LEGO City Undercover) I've played where, instead of at least two characters to switch between, single player offers only a single character at a time. The ability-switching comes with equipping various Tools. Any character can use any Tool.

Sadly, this means that characters do not have any native abilities. Batman, Superman, and a few other DC Comics chars make an appearance but don't have powers. Superman is grounded and cannot fly on his own. On the other hand, Tools arrive with certain storyline characters. Once the story gives you Batman, you get his Grapple Gun.

The first Tool you get is a Builder Page. Actually, it should be a manual, given that it allows you to build many useful structures.

When you bust up small LEGO structures in the game, you collect not only LEGO money but LEGO bricks as well. These come in a rainbow of colors, and a few neutral ones like black and brown. The color of the bricks corresponds to the main colors in the structure you destroyed. There are also mulitcolored bricks that are specific to each planet. Color is important enough that the game offers a Color Blind mode.

These bricks are then used to build items such as a springy Bouncer to help you jump higher, or Sprinkers to spread water on fires and seeds. Vehicles are also built this way. Again, the main colors of the build correspond to which color bricks you need.

Most of the bricks go toward builds via the Super Builder Page. This enables you to build huge structures, as in houses and stores. This Tool is active only in the second area, a sandbox-style free build land. Mild spoiler: You're building a place that appears only in the movie's happy ending. Building plans for this place are acquired through quests and shop purchases, and through your second Tool that allows you to scan in some blueprints from smaller builds in the world.

Another early Tool is a Sticker Gun, which is exactly as it sounds. It shoots stickers at walls, but also functions as a standard gun against certain things. Catch up with Rex Dangervest, and you get Danger Fists, gloves that allow you to smash through certain walls and brick mounds.

The RPG staple, town shops, show up here. Each planet has a shop with different stock. Some Master Bricks are found here, but mostly, it's new plans for the Super Builder area or characters. All shops also sell solid-colored bricks in nice convienent bundles.

Another RPG staple, chests, are also found in this game. Kick them open and each chest spits out money, either bricks specific to that area or normal colored ones, and Relics.

Relics are special containers that can only be opened by Shops. Inside are (groan) random drops. Depending on the Relic type, they can drop new characters to play as (so no scanning walkthroughs for the fastest path to your fave), vehicle plans, new stickers for the Sticker Gun, and other items.

A lot of items acquired this way are things that can be held like Tools. Some are weapons belonging to the various characters, but they are restricted to either melee or ranged functions. Green Lantern's ring and magical wands and staffs do not have any powers other than firing bolts. There are also lots of fun props, such as stuffed animals and ice cream cones.

Alas, even the Red Brick legal cheats of the other games are found this random way. These cheats take the form of Special Parts or Special Items to be equipped. Many of the usual useful or fun Red Brick cheats are represented, such as a magnet to extend your reach in gathering money or bricks, or a classy top hat for multiplying your money and brick accumulations.

However, the gacha-style mechanic plays far more fairly than in most other places. Get a duplicate, and you earn a shard toward a Mega Relic, which has a higher chance of giving you something new. Red Brick cheat items are gained slowly, mostly through finding shards of their red Relics, but are never duplicated until you have them all.


Honestly, this game feels like it was passed off to a smaller and maybe lesser dev team with a smaller budget while the main teams go work on a massive, must-not-screw-up Star Wars The Skywalker Saga game that also is said to have a completely rebuilt game engine.

While it is understandable that they could not bring back anyone from the movie's voice cast for this game (Chris Pratt contributed new dialogue to the first game), the voice actors here are complete unknowns to me. But still not terrible, of course.

Alas, cutscenes are merely narrated by voiceover and lack full voiced dialogue. This guts the emotional punch of a key third-act reveal.

There seems a distinct lack of polish. Voice acting for NPCs outside the main story is missing or rendered as gibberish placeholders. The UI's text hints for buttons to push sometimes do not render my Logitech gamepad's button labels. But this is merely annoying. The game engine may have been changed up, but it's about as solid as in past games, with no game-breaking glitches.

No wonder the reviews so far have been a bit mixed. On the one hand, this is a sharp shift away from the usual for these games. The game's plot also shakes up and often simply glosses over the movie plot's beats.

On the other hand, it isn't so much good or bad as it is merely different. It's still fun in a LEGO world. (Just please let this be a slight hiccup and not an omen of things to come.)

It uses the formula of Lego Dimensions combined with previous aspects of lego games to make a fun universe to explore with things to do and discover. As well as FREE upcoming levels as well.

Got this for my Birthday and i'm really enjoying playing it.
Only complaint are the controls they have changed a lot and I don't how they changed them.
But overall loving this game I do suggest this game for kids and adults its great fun!!!

I got this game because my kid loved the movie. They really hit the sweet spot of easy and casual enough for young kids (she's 5) but with enough challenge and content to keep a seasoned gamer from getting bored. That's a pretty rare combination in my experience. I have played some of the Star Wars Lego games in the past, but never found enough there to hold my attention past a couple hours of play. This is a bit more non-linear, and has a ton of content. I probably wouldn't play it on my own, but it's a great way to spend some time on a rainy day with my kid. The controls are a bit odd as some people have complained, but there's always tool tips on screen. Haven't had any problems with the bugs people have mentioned.

I feel like this game gets a bad rap for a few reasons:
A. the keyboard controls are super awkward, and
B. the mechanics are different from other Lego games.
However, I think it's nice that I can enjoy a game that's different than most of the ones I've played, especially since most Lego games were built off the same basic mechanics for a really long time. I really enjoy getting to build whatever I want wherever I want. True, it's hard to play without a controller, but it's still tons of fun!

At first glance, there isn't much change in Lego Movie 2 The Videogame.

Daringly you follow the plot of the film in which you explore a wide and open world and solve the usual easy puzzles.
However, the events in the film are only retold and the game actually assumes that you have seen the film beforehand.
Apart from the usual Lego jokes, the game also lacks a bit of charm.

But, that doesn't mean the game is bad. On the contrary. The game brings some changes.

For the game, the developers have decided to say goodbye to the quite linear level design and go more in the direction of an open world. There are solar systems for this.
The actual Systar system, in which the main story also takes place, consists of a total of seven planets that you gradually unlock. The explorer system, which contains six planets, does not contain any story quests, but instead numerous side quests in worlds that are designed really great. Since building is one of the most important elements in this game, there is also the planet Syspocalypstar in the Systar system. This planet is basically a small sanbox world in which you can gradually build the buildings you will find on your adventures in the galaxy.

In each of these worlds, new items and building options can be unlocked. In addition, as is already known from Lego Worlds, you can scan and rebuild any object. As a result, a wide variety of tasks can be completed by characters in the home world.
Another change is that you can get relics in chests or by defeating enemies. These can be brought into the shop and opened. The relics give you components, characters, vehicles, etc.
Yes, right, has a bit of loot boxes, except that you can't / don't have to buy them with real money.
But that also has a really big disadvantage. On the one hand, there are tons of these items all the time, and on the other hand, you're constantly being overwhelmed with duplicates and things you don't really need.

As previously mentioned, The Lego Movie 2 focuses more on building than smashing.
Thus, the individual characters play less of a role because they do not have different or special abilities as usual.
This is more or actually about finding building instructions and using them. There are a wide variety of tools such as generators, water sprinklers, micro-managers, etc.
On the one hand ok, on the other hand the amount of different characters is almost useless again because you kind of stick with your favorite character the whole time because he, like everyone else, can use everything.

Unfortunately, the story can be completed in around 5-7 hours and if you want to finish everything, you can expect around 15-20 hours of play time, depending on your playing style.

Is the game worth buying?

Yes and no.
Lego Movie 2 The Videogame is one of the more mediocre Lego games that can be fun for younger players and fans of the movies. But the game doesn't do anything wrong in principle and is definitely entertaining.
I would definitely wait until the game is back on sale.

So, I played *The Lego Movie 2 Videogame* from start to finish—yes, I even went the extra mile and 100%ed it (because why not?). And I’ve got to say, I’m pretty indifferent overall. But here’s the thing: while the game has its ups and downs, it’s actually a pretty solid experience, especially if you’re willing to look at it on its own merits.

Let’s start with the gameplay. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Sure, it still has you collecting studs and unlocking characters, but *The Lego Movie 2* takes a different approach. It leans into an open-world, Mad Max-style experience with a hint of resource management, and even throws in some boss mechanics that feel like a nod to *Shadow of the Colossus*. It’s basically *Lego Worlds* on a budget—less sandbox, more structured open-world with random quests and collectibles scattered about. It might not be what everyone was expecting, but I appreciate that they tried something different.

Now, if you’re in it for the story, I’ve got some bad news. It’s pretty much nonexistent. There’s not much of a narrative here, which is a bit disappointing considering the charm and humor the Lego games are known for. But hey, if you’re here just for the gameplay, this might not be a dealbreaker for you.

As a standalone game, without comparing it to the other Lego titles, *The Lego Movie 2 Videogame* holds its own pretty well. This is by far the best Lego game I have played so far, wonderful graphics and cute stuff everywhere. You can also venture into space and I feel like it has something to offer for everyone. If you enjoy games that don't take itself seriously, then you'll definitely love this! 💗 So much to collect, build and craft. And you can make your own character from collectibles. I am really just Impressed by everything this game has to offer and they're already working on adding FREE new levels. You can travel to different dimensions and universes. This game really has it all, speaking from a Lego point of view. Worth the 20$ and more! Buy this game if you want to have fun. Trust me.. You won't be disappointed 😘🌸🤣 Everything is awesome!
