Maining the captain?
I've been wondering what were some opinions about the captain.
I like its gameplay and I would like to main it, however I would also like to be useful to the rest of the team (co-op multiplayer speaking) and bring good damage. But online, most of the tier list I saw doesn't even include the captain.
Personally, I think it could be a good support, but that's just my opinion. What do people think about it? Would people appreaciate a captain in the team?

I don't mind seeing a captain on the team, though it does feel like support-focused builds are mostly useless in endgame. People tend to either play well enough that they don't need support, or poorly enough that support won't save them. A good slow spell is rare to see, though, and makes quite a good dps opening for the group.

Forget tierlists, they're entirely subjective and often just show how little the author understands certain characters / lacks the ability to adjust to different playstyles.

You can play anyone you like and the captain is a great choice over all, since they're a jack-of-all-traits without being mediocre. Most people just don't use them as main, because they don't play into any specific power fantasy.

genuinly the captain is very good and slept on. its just not many people want to play them because the design is kinda vanilla. not very complicated character with a bland design. its wild how many djeeta simps there were before launch and yet I have literally never had a djeeta show up in my games. seen gran like twice but zero djeeta.

if you like the captain play them. they have an incredible list of supportive skills and the offensive skills are pretty good too. its a shame defense down doesn't matter that much because if it did captain would be an incredible character.

The captain is the top of the tier list lol https://youtu.be/ZB80H5rqMPQ?si=qhMznn8daPzOFdPR&t=108

But I hate their normal attacks, way slow and boring. This video has good long in depth explanation of every character benefits tho.

^ This and only this - if we talk about tier lists we talk about finishing a quest a few seconds earlier.

I don't main the mc, but I play it from time to time and you're right about being a good support. Miserable Mist, Veil, and Stall are my favorite skills on Gran. I put revive on him too, but people normal revive them faster than me so it feels useless. Phalanx would be a good replacement imo.

The captain has the bonus advantage of a wide variety of skills, making it likely that whatever mechanics future bosses bring, or what nerfs/buffs different attack types or status effects get, the captain will never be short of four good skill choices.

But yeah, slow on demand and a core mechanic of "hit things to power up" is a good foundation, even if it isn't flashy.

Captain is just ok. He/She's is just a real down to earth jack of all trades. Danchou can do anything. That also means they have the most build diversity of the crew. DPS danchou is pretty basic but can do very good damage if you get the rotor bug to
work with Decimate/Override Surge. Support/Tank Danchou can make the whole team not take damage if you manage to abuse Invincibility from perfect dodges during substitute and then you have Utility Danchou that brings atk/def down slow, or healing/Veil etc.

I think skillwise he's the most appealing character in the entire game. Armor Break, Miserable Mist, Rage and Stall are very valuable skills in every online party and you can be very effective if you combine those along with an offensive build and skills like Overdrive Surge and Decimate. Personally I just don't like to play kid characters that's the only reason why I'd prefer Siegfried over Gran.

Captain is a DPS.
Captain is a healer.
Captain is a buff support.
Captain is a debuff support.
Captain is a tank.
Captain is anything in between.

It depends on how ya cook her.
Just remember yar combos and be comfortable with skills.
Bah.

Captain is great, captain is my main. Skills are a kind of situational but can be very useful in those situations.

Take the debuff aid skill for instance. Full immunity to debuffs to the whole party for a duration. All that "Slow" that stupid black dragon does is now ineffective. All that extra damage that came from no one being slowed is your contribution to the party.

But Its also super useful only in that one instance so if you bring it to Gallanza+Mag prepare to use it never. (and just swap it out for revive or something else instead)

Making full use of the captain requires you to visit the skill screen very often.

I main the MC, personally I feel like your worth as a party member is determined by your knowledge of the boss/quest. Knowing what skills to bring greatly improves the experience and uptime of your team. Honestly you probably won't get MVP everytime but supporting still gives you alot of honors. The MC has the most basic animations but that's the only cons of using them. I'll argue being basic has its own pros like ease of use and not doing mentally and/or physically straining gameplay.

I personally almost always bring Decimate (goes crazy during link time together with Reginleiv for DPS) and Overdrive Surge (Crazy stun damage). The other two skills are dependent on the quest. You can drop the heal on later levels cause most people would have their Potion Hoarder sigils.

PS. You can do crazy speed farming using Conduction for your premade parties.

I see! Thank you all for the tips.
Glad to see people think it's great!
