What are you talking about? Gunlance is one of the most hart hitting weapons in MH.
Also, if you need cheesy ability cancels for beeing good, you don't deserve them, Katalina is fine as she is now.

1. You seem to never used the shot functions of the gunlance. I'll have you know it is the thing which looks like a gun, not the actual Lance.
2. I have 130+ hours in this game, but sure, jump to conclusions. Having a furious stalker like you (you yourself beeing listed as level 0 private account) is exactly the reason why my account is private. Let me guess: Bad dead by daylight habit?
3. Ability cancel was surely a bug. Besides not only Katalina was "nerfed", Parzival and Siegfried also didn't enjoy this.
4. Learn some manners and watch your tone. This isn't fortnite.

Speaking as somebody who does main katlina, I don't think them fixing the ability cancel for infinite ares is an issue. I find it frustrating that she encourages a very facetank playstyle that I'm struggling to unlearn as I try other characters but she can be played even at endgame functionally. I just think without a proper build she is aggressively unfun to play and so she can be off putting to first learn.

Get stout heart. That single sigil is really what makes katalina playable. because the way things are, once you get ares out you absolutely don't want to drop it because some random little swing interrupted you. That also lets you run steel nerves with 100% uptime, which plus her natural defense boosts under ares makes you very capable of facetanking some absurd hits.
Besides that, if you're having to manually build up ares, your normal strings should be xxxy -> xy -> xxxy -> xy. Any of the xxxy strings can be replaced with a skill into finisher, or link attack. you can use skills to get into ares faster when needed but generally want to be having your skills up to maintain ares once you have it out. Invest in quick cooldown and cascade since alot of her attacks are multi hit and you can generally keep ares out for 100% of the times when it matters. azure blade is what you'll use for times where you don't have a chance to setup before a burst window or when you need to maintain ares in periods where you can't afford to just facetank. Yeah, kat is in a tough spot. Answering Xaelon, Kat requires 3 attack skills (ice dart, dash attack and the ares summon) to keep ares up. But you cannot stop attacking with Y to keep it up. When the Y combo ends, use one of the skills and go back to Y. So her build requires stout heart to even work. You can't even dodge.
