On the subjective portion, i've heard both. Personally, the Paradise Lost uses between Sandalphon and Lucilius sound better in Eng Dub. I'm just taken out of it when Japanese pronunciation of it goes "Paradise Losto". Not to mention the sheer emotion in the English cast voice.
I main vane, so here we are.
Charlotte sounds really funny in english, while the english voice actor of Vane really fits Vane's personality.
Of course there are some differences in character when it comes down to Narmaya or Cagliostro.
Narmaya in japanese has the character of the "big sister" or "Onee san" as she refers herself too. While the english Narmaya voice actress is very good, there is no "big sister type of a woman"s personality" in the western world. At least not in the modern western world anymore.
While Cagliostro is the "magical girl type in form of an idol". I would say it is basically impossible to translate this character into english. To much cultural difference in speech, manners and flow of the language.
Overall it is very hard to translate a lot of the speech patterns into english, because of the differences in japanese and english.
Narmaya for example often talks to the broader audience refering to herself in third person. It sounds interesting in japanese, but if you try to translate it directly into english it would sound like the former queen of england would speak to her buttler.
It would be a complete change of character. Because in the westen world only royals refered in third person to themselves while at the same time talking directly to other people.
Opposite for me. Hearing the same voicelines over and over again gets tiresome, switchitng to random foreign langauge reduces it to "random noise" which makes it way easier on ears. And the dragon especially seems to have the most annoying tone in english version
Vyrn sounds lame in both languages so it's kinda whatever to me since he can't be muted. However I agree that of all the voices, Vyrn is the one that I would pick if it was a choice of "worst voice"in the game.
my headset almost got exploded
