How do people even decide to use English dub in this series?
I played this game entirely in JP dub and every time I notice a streamer is playing in ENG dub, I try to find a different streamer. The English dub isn't entirely awful, but a good amount of the cast feels like a miscast.

-Io sounds way too old for an 11 year old
-Siegfried sounds way too young for a guy in his early 30s
-Eugen does not sound 50 years old
-Cagliostro's voice direction of having a cutesy voice and a terrifying voice is done horribly in ENG
-Vyrn
-The localization makes this worse by changing a lot of dialogue from the JP script to be quirky instead of preserving the original tone, so it comes off as cheesy. (The second I saw a Vyrn line reading "You buttface!", I knew I made the right choice)
-The JP dub has a lot of heavy hitters you can't pass up (JP Lucilius is literally Cloud Strife)

It's nothing new, the EN dubbing for this game was butchered and westernised - which totally ruined the experience.

The only people defending it are sheep who enjoy being contrarians on Steam for the sake of it. Or have terrible taste and can't tell from a good and a bad dub.

Just pretend the EN dub never existed.
While I ain't supporting what the localizers did. I feel it may be due in part to cultural differences on how Japanese talk. Retaining the purity of the developer's vision and all that is good. As long as a language's clever grammar use doesn't fly right over another audience's head

On the subjective portion, i've heard both. Personally, the Paradise Lost uses between Sandalphon and Lucilius sound better in Eng Dub. I'm just taken out of it when Japanese pronunciation of it goes "Paradise Losto". Not to mention the sheer emotion in the English cast voice.

Played the gacha for 7 years with the Japanese voices. Can't imagine playing with a Californian dub.

That is so bizarre, Lucifer, Lucillius and Sandalphon saying their signature attack: "Paradise Losto!" is iconic in Granblue Fantasy, like how Cagliostro shouts: "ARS MAGNA!" (In Relink she doesn't do her usual shout which is disappointing). The way the ENG dub shouts out their ultimates doesn't seem right.

Imagine calling people sheep just for wanting to listen to things in a language they understand.

People don't care about quality as long as they can understand what's being said. People will watch human atrocities like dubbed over movies.

English Vane is a gym bro and it fits him so well. His jp voice acting doesn´t give that feeling.

I main vane, so here we are.

I think the english voice actors did a really good job this time. It is 2024 and not the year 2000 when voice actors were butchering anime characters left and right.

Charlotte sounds really funny in english, while the english voice actor of Vane really fits Vane's personality.

Of course there are some differences in character when it comes down to Narmaya or Cagliostro.

Narmaya in japanese has the character of the "big sister" or "Onee san" as she refers herself too. While the english Narmaya voice actress is very good, there is no "big sister type of a woman"s personality" in the western world. At least not in the modern western world anymore.

While Cagliostro is the "magical girl type in form of an idol". I would say it is basically impossible to translate this character into english. To much cultural difference in speech, manners and flow of the language.

Overall it is very hard to translate a lot of the speech patterns into english, because of the differences in japanese and english.

Narmaya for example often talks to the broader audience refering to herself in third person. It sounds interesting in japanese, but if you try to translate it directly into english it would sound like the former queen of england would speak to her buttler.
It would be a complete change of character. Because in the westen world only royals refered in third person to themselves while at the same time talking directly to other people.

English dub sounds fine for the battles which is 90% of what you do. Not understanding any of the party banter would ruin all of it. And they do those very well.

Opposite for me. Hearing the same voicelines over and over again gets tiresome, switchitng to random foreign langauge reduces it to "random noise" which makes it way easier on ears. And the dragon especially seems to have the most annoying tone in english version

Not all people are obsessed with Japan and japanese language. IF you are that doesnt mean that other should also be. In japanese dun they usually overreact about literally everything and at some point it just become annoying. For example i can watch any japanese cyberpunk anime, but action or anything like that usually not a chance unless English Dub changes soundtrack. I like how this guy just say that people who like English Dub are just sheeps not realizing that he is the actual sheep here, he just have rly narrow mind that he cant accept the fact that english dub usually is not that far and in some cases is even better then Japanese Dub.
it really is crazy how some westerner's try to appropriate japanese for themselves and make it their entire personality rofl

Vyrn sounds lame in both languages so it's kinda whatever to me since he can't be muted. However I agree that of all the voices, Vyrn is the one that I would pick if it was a choice of "worst voice"in the game.
