It's based on the target's max HP, same with Burn status. So hitting Barrold in training with it only shows 113 and isn't accurate with what you'd see in actual gameplay.

The DoT is just a bonus, the real reason you take that skill is for the Def Down.

You don’t really use it for that either. Defense down doesn’t increase the damage cap.

Lots of skills and hits you for sure won't hit damage cap on on some certain characters.

@OP
My Eugen's dot does around 56k per tick on the proud firewyrm and the skill ticks 30+ times (I think 33 times?)
So 1.848.000 damage.

Still bad?

Posion DoT damage is directly related to character's screen attack. So before Stamina etc. Meaning 2xTyranny will yield higher posion damage than 1xTyranny + 1xStamina
Even though 1x Tyranny+Stamina is way better damage for everything else.

It's character-sheet ATK*2*amount of ticks. I believe literally nothing else matters.

edit: burn works the exact same way.

and the reason you see a 113 is because it's limited by the amount of max HP a target has. I believe it can only tick for like 1%(?) of the target's max HP damage.

But it makes it easier to reach which means you can slot in a bit more defense and use the ability to help you reach caps instead. It's a perfectly viable strategy.

no one is basing their build on limited time buffs and debuffs that you or your team may or may not have

Depends. Some people have separate builds for multiplayer, so you can absolutely set up a build with sub 90% crit to take advantage of Cag's crit buff for example. The way you play the game isn't the way everyone plays it. Some people only play with AI or a mix of both. Going a full damage cap 100% crit online makes more sense of course.

yes people don't play optimally and that is their and my right to do so. but no one has a build saved called "I have a human ferry player with sigil and attack buff on my team so I dont have to build as much damage" if your playing single player with AI ESPECIALLY you should build to hit damage cap because most character AI is far more interested in dodging than maintaining aggression or buffs. there is no situation where building around your ally's buffs and debuffs is a good plan. you can do it if you want. that doesn't mean you arnt doing something silly.

I feel as though the +dmg buffs and -defense debuff skills should also increase dmg cap by some amount for their duration. That way, they can continue being useful at any level.

Thanks for telling people how to play and judging their play style! You are lots of fun at gatherings I'm sure.

Thanks for adding no take and defending a side I doubt you or anyone on this board even represents. I’m sure you are fun at social gatherings. All it would take is looking at how precise doing the math for “exactly enough to hit damage cap with buffs from my teammates” when just hitting damage cap is so much easier to do.
