Yeah don't worry too much about S++ ratings when starting out, all the characters in the roster are pretty decent provided you know how to control and gear them. I'd say there's a few light roles where some characters are tankier and can draw aggro or can provide support buffs, but it's nothing like MMO roles where duties are strict. The entire party is responsible for contributing damage, triggering stuns, and coordinating SBAs to be efficient at taking down bosses.
There's this one for bot helper performance. As for top dps, that would be Rackam, Percival, Vaseraga being top 3 at the moment iirc.
That being said, you'll eventually unlock and max out every character so just pick who you like.
Bosses are the main endgame so splitting up tier lists like that doesn't really make sense imo because in endgame, there's a damage cap and a healing cap.
C tier: Who you don't like.
F tier: siegfried (until they buff the caps on his damage lol)
top 1 Rackham (Glass canon + less is more) build
top 2 Percival (Roter wheel bug)
top 3 Charlotta, Vaseraga or Eugen if he can spam bomb through the whole run
Saying that You don't always have to be the top DPS. If you want to increase your clear speed multiplayer then ferry SBA spam or Lancelot glaciate etc.. is incredibly useful overall.
Then there is the mastery points. I consistently, I will get 2000 over. I am interested to know how this actually works. Why are my mastery points gained always this much higher then my team mates while they get miserably low points for it. Or are they not showing the real total mastery points gained by other players, but you can only see your own total mastery points gained?
I think that the strongest characters are Percival, Zeta and Ferry, Percival and Zeta not only have absurd DMG numbers but also owns potent CC's with Percival having the most busted slow of the game.
Ferry may not dish big numbers, but she's a ulting machine and if played right she can carry most fights with her ult, giving time for the team to break the boss, she also have slow.
Then there are Katalina and Lancelot, Katalina can keep refreshing Ares with her Frozen Blade and also owns freeze, the most powerful CC of the game (cause some bosses when overdrive during slow or paralysis totally ignore it and go do their thing, but they cannot ignore freeze), Lancelot can apply freeze more reliably, he is not a high DMG number character but he is like Ferry on this regard.
Then we have pure DMG monsters like Charlotte, Vaseraga, Narmaya, Cagliostro, etc, (edit: Rackam) I know that Vaseraga also owns a powerful slow but it's not what he is know for, good Vaseraga players are god send!
The only character that I don't like is Yodarha, I think that he is too risk to almost no benefit kind of character, all the other characters can do better than him without needing his mark mechanic, he honestly needs a buff.
But 'broken character' list is really necessary for newbies and Cygames dev team.
