Other them him i'd say Id and Percival, these 3 are among highest damage dealers in game.
There are maybe other but i didnt play with these characters so i dont know.
With character i play these 3 do the most damage
If you want simple gameplay there are examples like Rackam or Percival who has minimal mechanics.
I've been running the fight legit with another person and 2 AI and our clears tend to be around 8 minutes with no phase skipping.
I'll run Percy or Yoda and my teammate has run Vane for most of them. Two AIs are Cag and the Captain, built mostly for support.
There's some kind of a Lancelot cheese strat for the boss going around though. You can look into that if you want.
I'd imagine it's probably difficult to find info on what the 'meta' is in this game because everyone is reasonably capable. The main difference between characters is if they're easy or hard to do max DPS with.
While you are correct that Vas does a lot of damage per hit, he's not a mobile character. I tried using him against the new boss but it didn't work well because he would constantly teleport away and out of range of my charged attacks. But yeah, Vas is great in any fight where stuff isn't constantly moving out of range.
I haven't tried Id on that particular fight but I find him a bit unforgiving to use overall because if you get downed while transformed (in either mode) the game forces you back to square one and you have to recharge the entire gauge again. Getting two sets of skill CDs is nice and all, but the longer ramp up time it takes to go from Normal > Dragon > Godmight puts him behind other characters in terms of potental burst DPS. He is a very fun character to play though. WIth some adjustments to how fast he can enter Godmight and the removal of form-loss on down I think he would be a very good character.
Percival is very good though. He currently holds my PB of 21m damage on the 60 second dummy. His personal buff + Skill and charged attack spam combo is does a lot of DPS.
Lancelot, Vaseraga, Eugen, Charlotta, Io, and Zeta are all in pretty good spots for this fight. Meanwhile Ghandagoza stays suffering, Rosetta stays numerically undertuned, and Katalina suffers very badly in this one fight in particular due to Ares mechanics being strict.
