what is causing all the save corruption?
I just saw several threads claiming that their saves have been corrupted and could no longer be loaded. This is really making me paranoid. I'm playing this game a lot but I can't imagine having all that farming and grinding go to waste and the save is rendered useless (especially since you only get one slot per run).

I now backup my save after every session, but I see some saying that even the local backup won't load anymore. Has anyone figured out the cause for this? Is CY aware of this problem?

Unfortunately if you already have a save game corruption than it might be too late unless they patch it. But for any new game make sure to turn off auto save.

No one really knows truly, some are speculating its to do with autosaving, but its just guess work.

I've been fortunate to not to have experienced any save corruption. I've manually saved very time I'm done with a session.

ok thank you. Turning it off.
I never had any issue with auto save other than Bugthesda games though, I think the auto save is really awful there because of save bloating and auto save keeping all the scripts or something like that, and maybe because of all the mods too?

yeah but I'm pretty sure everyone who had their save corrupted, didn't have any issue until they suddenly do lol.
That's why I'm so paranoid because even if I backup the save after each session, I don't know if a random day when I try to load the save, it is already corrupted, save with the one I backed up before.
But yeah, def turning off auto save now!

The added benefit off turning off auto save is you can save then use over mastery and if you get bad rolls just return to title screen + load back in so you don't waste all your points. That's right you can save scum over mastery. You will get the same over mastery results again if you try again immediately but if you do just random one quest the results will change.

I'm not far enough into the game to even know what "over mastery" means, but that's good to know, thanks! Also believe I can save scum if the voucher sigls are bad, maybe even the curio result is random too.

Ive been nonstop closing the game via alt+f4 and even had steam cloud sync errors but the game runs just fine. Ive also never turned off autosaves or anything like that

Its not unlikely that there is an issue but theres also stuff like this:

https://forums.nexusmods.com/topic/5196990-false-save-corruption-during-gameplay/

wouldnt be the first time. Ive also seen comments on a certain cheatsofware site mentioning save corruption. I guess karma does exist.

im backing up my game after grinding every single day. I might just create a script to do that and just double click it.

I've read that save corruption can happen when you alt+f4 while the game is in the middle saving. Is that what you tried?
But yeah, modding could def be a cause, though it if it intentional on the part of the dev especially since there's no PvP in this game, then it would be very scummy. Capcom doing this certainly doesn't surprise me giving their recent actions, their games deserve all the review bombings they get. I just hope CY is better than that.

Dont associate me with your weird conspiracy theories.
Those were statements given in MHR about the possibility of corruption due to introduction of impossible quests.

Capcom was not happy with mods in SF6 specifically because of this incident:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvtvLjVywWI
which was livestreamed and probably got them trouble with a bunch of other companies like advertisers and possibly the streaming site itself. This happened way later than the issues in Monster Hunter.

If we had the possibility of "official" and "modded" servers for every game that would be the prefered solution but i find it likely that on 8 out of 10 games that wouldnt end well for the modded population.

I alt+f4'd once instead of closing the game normally and that broke it for me. Now I make a backup after each game close.

ah I see, probably did a tee bit too soon and the game was still saving? Think it would just be safer to quit through the option instead of alt+f4.

Nope game wasn't saving. I think I was in matchmaking queue and decided I would quit and change the region 'cause it wasn't popping. Yeah, I always close it properly now.

It's because of Auto-Save.

It triggers whenever you're back in town / airship.

If the game crashes after a story cutscene / loading back into town / airship, the save file can be corrupted if it was in the middle of saving.

Hence why you turn off Auto-Save.

Wouldn't this issue also occur if you had a power failure during the manual save? Assuming you're not making regular backups through your file system. Obviously it's going to make a problem much less likely, but I feel like it's a massive shame to blame the very convenient autosave feature when the best fix would be for developers to automatically maintain a backup save so that your data isn't put at risk every time a save happens
