Nothing you typed here sounds as outlandish as you’re hoping it comes across
The best RPGs have a wide variety of classes and play styles which enables character customization and player skill expression
In Gran Blue, you play as a dull, pointless “character” and constantly switch between a smash bros style line up of characters and can’t change armor or customize them at all
I heard you guys waited like 10 years or something crazy for this? lol. What?
Like, I'm not going over to the Stardew Valley discussion and making posts saying that I wish it was a fighting game, or a first-person RPG. I'm not going to the Elden Ring page saying the opposite of you, that I wish we could just play as other characters instead of building a class.
No offence... but people think their opinions matter way more than they actually do.
Having unique class/skills/items for each characters have always been superior.
in this game they look good
One bonus from set character games is that they often have way better design than what player can make because their theme, armor, weapons and skills were made specifically to fit that one character.
But!
Original GBF is a turn based highly strategic RPG, it fits here pretty well, you can customize your party, summons, elemental stuff, weapons, skills... But GBF Relink is more of an action-slashing type of game, it's not so deep in terms of customization and tactical stuff, like, filled more with the react/memorize type of gameplay patterns, not really "to plan ahead and strategize", so it is pretty hard to fit all the original stuff in here, imo.
Still, would be cool to play MC as different classes, as they may be pretty different from the rest of the character roaster. The only con would be that other characters wouldn't be such versatile and won't have as deep customization as the MC...
Really? Maan, I thought I came up with the most absurd classes one could have wanted. Guess not, huh... Oh well, that besides the point anyway.
The game is what it is. Exactly as you said: you play as a "character" and constantly switch between a smash bros style line up of characters and can’t change armor or customize them at all... (I edited out the highly opinionated stuff, hope you don't mind). Is this game has the best RPG element? I would argue, no, it is not. But does that stop anyone from playing? I dunno, who is this "anyone" anyway. Why not check the rating from the store page for reference...
That's me.
Also me.
You want to play glass cannon Vas? You can and he hits fkn hard. You want to play Tank Rosetta? Theres a build for it and it works. Same for all the characters.
It's a story game with tacked-on multiplayer. Not sure what you were expecting aside from that.
