Because the name "Bahamut" is drawn from mythology and is therefore public domain.

One quick google search would have answered your question.

Getting sued by an company who doesn't even have owned any right on the name of a mythology monster. That's a new one.

Please don't tell me you expect million dollar Soul-less corporations to own the rights to mythological creatures that have existed for thousands of years as passed down by oral traditions even before writing was invented...

I feel this series is more final fantasy than final fantasy. Because dragon-shaped Behamut first came out in final fantasy. Final fantasy to me is the summoner class that summons Behamut and win the day. But they derail into focus on other melee classes in the later series and Behamut is just another high damage and nice looking figure without special identity just like the rest of other summoning creatures. I mean Lyria is "the" summoner class you cannot play in this game XD. And man the fact you can control "Bahamut" somewhere in this game is like a childhood dream comes true !!

They literally have lallafels and the other similar races. Its final fantasy coded asf but still a great franchise.

Final Fantasy didn't invent dwarves, or beastfolk. lol

It uses a lot of mythology that is also present in other games

Another example is Charlotte's sword, Claiom Solais (a mythological sword) that is also the "robot" controlled by Altina from Trails of Cold Steel

This is a technically correct answer but it is not the answer.

Although yes it is a name from mythology it isn’t relevant. it’s like “ok there is a reoccurring cow named Zeus what’s up with that?” “Oh yeah Zeus is a mythology name” it’s a nonsensical answer.

The real answer is that the Bahamut depicted in this game and the one depicted in final fantasy gain their name and aspects of design from dungeons and dragons. Bahamut is an important dragon in dungeons and dragons. The original final fantasy is a somewhat conversion of dungeons and dragons. They lifted many dnd mechanics to make it. They also used Bahamut. At some point part of the team that made some of those older final fantasy titles splintered off and made granblue fantasy. They took aspects of final fantasy with them and Bahamut seems to have come too.

As for why they haven’t been sued. Idk blame dnd for not suing square fast enough way back when until Bahamut was already considered a different character than what he obviously was designed to be in final fantasy 1.

No, but they traditionalized certain ways in which they are used. The descriptions for the shortstacks in this game match Lalafell to a T, which goes against the mainline halflings in most other universes. These people grew up with Final Fantasy and all these mythologies being introduced to their culture via media and wanted to make their own fantasy. Thus, Granblue Fantasy. Not their Final Fantasy, but their Grand Fantasy across the sky of blue.

You are permitted to be inspired by things, and to inspire. Even if the concepts come from other places originally, you can trace along that line where certain changes in how they are presented are made to see where exactly the inspiration came from. Not to mention, in case you didn't know, prior FF staff were heavily involved with the creation and working on granblue originally and probably still are.

There are numerous things that you can point to that line up with Final Fantasy. This IS different. It's got a different style of story telling, a different way of setting up and using it's events, vastly different characterization. It's also far lighter and more... What's the word... Hopeful. And honestly, nostalgic. It's fun, especially the new game. I missed these types of stories in gaming and really didn't know how much until I picked it up. I'm not saying they're not there, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

But yeah. That's my rant. It's absolutely FF coded, and that's ok. They did their own thing and clearly put a lot of love into it.

Your question should have been answered by itself when you recognized Bahamut was already in multiple franchises owned by completely separate entities.

Bahamut is in La Mulana as well. Boss of Spring in the Sky.

OP's going to see a chicken outside and go "Omg the farmer's gonna get sued by Square!"
