Fantasy Games are supposed to be fictional worlds, devoid of racial stigma, or other realworld problems that currently sit in our society, blonde blue eye anime characters have been a thing in their anime's long before it was ever something that was actively being localized to the west and the reason I can give you for that is, idk? Because they think those people are hot most likely? Because it's exotic to them? Considering that Japan has been heavily isolationist during it's medieval history? And the only ones allowed to trade with them were the Dutch and the Portugeese? The same way the west goes monkey brain mode whenever they see something with thick thighs and starts simping hard?
Forcing this attitude into games will sooner or later destroy the industry because you pretty much destroy the entire indie development teams.
Granblue Fantasy is an established franchise. If skin color is what you're upset about then sorry, you are racist. If all characters would be black no one would complain. So please spare me these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ excuses.
I'm Albino, I'm NEVER represented, unless it's the sims and guess what, who cares. It's a fictional game set in a fictional world inside of a fictional universe, not trying to be reality, If the game had only black characters who cares it's fictional world, if it had all white, who cares, it's all fictional, if it had all Albino, who cares, it's all fictional. Get the point I'm getting at?
i'm not sure what you're on about, I'm pointing out that for media that is supposed to cater to their demographic as the person I'm quoting is implying, the japanese media sure do have a lot of caucasian people in it. If it was this dry cut as hes trying to put it, then, by the same logic, their media should have more japanese looking characters than anything else, and also trying to say that Sunfire has a point about the racism thing.
Do you really think this is possible? If there is no racial tension (that which in turn could be made an analogy to real life stuff), or other "real world problems" as you put it, then wheres the conflict? Does everyone just get along and like each other? Not even Granblue is free from this if you pay attention to the story.
There are people who care about this, if you can only think of yourself (if its not a problem for you then it can't be for anyone else) I don't think theres anything I could say that could satisfy you. Keep not caring I guess.
Because I don't want stories to be reality, I want it to be fictional, I play games, read books to escape what is our ♥♥♥♥♥♥ society not to bring those things into it. It's a game with fictional races and yet we all want them to conform to our race drama. This tells more about how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ humanity is, because we cannot just have a moment and shut off our brains and not think about whatever we are constantly bombarded with whenever we step two feet outside.
It still HAS to have roots in reality, or else you simply couldn't understand anything about the media, things wouldn't make sense. You see Gran's and other characters design and it feels right because they are based in something from real life, like for instance knights, which were literally troops used to wage war in most cases, wars, that in turn, are waged for personal or political interests. What I'm trying to say is that it NEEDS to be so, its not optional.
Most of the western media I consume is fantasy stuff, but it's still a product of my culture and still represents it.
I also don't feel the need to make associations about characters in a video game to see who they are representing and force conclusions opposite to occam's razor just because it fits a warped perspective of the world that I happen to embrace instead of questioning whether I'm right or not to uphold these beliefs so ardently.
It's a fantasy world, I'm not sure why you're trying to draw connections with the real world in the first place, misplaced as they are.
This is absolutely made for the eastern market, filled to the brim with tropes that cater to that market. If there's caucasian characters in it, like you say, then it's how their culture perceives caucasian characters ie: a trope for the eastern market.
I don't, because I can differentiate a game from reality, when I used to pop on games on the ps2, and guess what so were the majority of people, and we were all enjoying true crime streets of ny or GTA San andreas or Final Fantasy, no ones thought was EVER, Wow this game has either only playable white people or playable black people, this game needs more diversity. No one did, because it's not real.
Now forward in the year of 2024, and the first thing people think when they open a book or game is, well I hope it has a diverse cast of characters representing everyone, and doesn't approach any sensitive topics, etc, etc.
Stories DO NOT need to have roots in reality, the fact that you seek roots from realities in every corner means you cannot differentiate reality from fiction. Stories can make NEW concepts, that's why it's fiction, did you watch avatar and look at those blue people and think Wow, those sure are grounded to reality, or aliens for alien?
