which are the best 4 characters in the game?

Gran/Djeeta for the virtue of being the protagonist that you cannot switch out in the story.

This means that if you can only upgrade one person and want to do ultimate mode anyway, He is your go to character.

Otherwise it heavily depends on your playstyle. Some people are good at spellcasting, some people are good at timed inputs. Each character have different strengths like tanking/etc.

If it is just AI, then the best characters are the spammers like Lancelot. They are usually too dumb to do any situational things.

I barely upgraded Djeeta. Ended up maining Cagliostro. Play whoever you want. Literally everyone is viable. You don't need to min/max the story.

If you're playing with NPCs, have 2 healers in your group and you can even solo some PROUD missions. Like Captain and Katarina

You are forced to include Gran in your party for the story but you are not forced to play him. So just leave him as a support bot. He gets TONS of support spells, he can even heal and REVIVE too. He's the only one who gets a Rez spell. Or you can use him for his OP armor skill that lets you tank boss hits. His damage doesn't matter.

But for non-story purposes, I'd say Yodarha is the best. He works as a damager or a support and he's very versatile due to his Mirror Images, allowing you to run more glass cannon or berserker than other characters. Io is also crazy strong for what she can do and the AI supports you with heals almost preemptively. Either of the gunners are good because they keep on targets well and have aimbot when controlled by the game and they can really help break parts when bosses are moving out of melee range. Lancelot is of course bonkers damage wise if you just need a murderer.

Gran/Djeeta are not the only ones who can rez. Cagliostro can rez.

You are forced to play him in Chapter 1, even on ultimate. The part where you have no party members, have you kill a bunch of lv 90+ birds and wolves, and later team up with a fixed party of Katalina, Rackam, and Io to fight a lv 100 Quakadile the Spin dashing not-hedgehog.

It's not a difficult fight, but I don't think you would want to chip damage that boss for hours.

I'm just saying, if you have to ONLY PICK ONE and you want to do Ultimate mode. Just go with Gran. Save yourself the hassle. Outside of that one instance, go with whoever you like the most.
