This game is stacked with A-list professional voice actors. If you consume a lot of anime and Japanese games, I'm sure you will recognise a few voices. It's truly a waste to play this game with English voices.

Japanese because the voice actors are attractive in real life unlike most of the American voice actors
So true oomfie
It may sound pathetic, but sometimes I look at what the English voice actors look like and decide then

you must play all your games with the JP VA then...

I guess this strategy technically works out in the end.

JP - You can't miss out on Rie Kugimiya's voice on Vyrn.

Very true. I did the same but this game features mid-battle story centric dialog in nearly every encounter. I had to switch to the English vo because I couldn't keep up. On the other hand, when using the Japanese vo the terrible localization is front and center as the subtitles use the english dub script. I understand enough japanese that the changes to nearly every line jump out at me, yet I don't understand enough to follow along completely without the subs.

So I'm using the english vo during the campaign and for endgame I'll switch to the masterful japanese vo while reading the elementary fanfic level localized subs when I have to.

puts on *high pitched* unknown gibberish..

yes yes.. this is truly superior, to english.

Also are you even playing the game right, if you are using english as subtext!?
and even worse trusting that the text is correct...

devs developed using the moon runes, you better use, or you are just a scrub

The best voices are the voices YOU like. If youre used to playing games and watching tv shows in english or if you simply like english voices more, go with the EN voices.

If you watch animes only in japanese, then go with JP voices.

Simple, isnt it? You people really need to stop with the "I only like what other people like" crap. Dont be afraid to say, do and choose the stuff YOU like. Youre YOU after all, youre not the others.

there is a difference between liking something and something being objectively better in ways easy to compare and judge.

Like voice audio quality, consistency in delivery, accurate casting, correct lines for the character instead of the English edited ones.

if you liked the englsih VA's that much, knowing everyone objectively can judge it to be otherwise shouldn't matter to you. Alot of the time its just people do know they aren't better but are too caught up/stuck with the idea that its part of their personality at this point.

No ones saying you can't use them, but you are getting the lower quality/altered product if you choose to do so. Would be cool if this wasn't the case but that would require the english VA community/industry to improve and change alot of how it operates.

I'll be honest, this isn't something that has ever entered my thought process about voice actors. I don't actually know what any of them look like, despite watching anime for over 30 years.

Judging by your criteria I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you watch almost exclusively with japanese audio. I could be wrong, but my imagination doesn't paint a pretty picture of the american va's.

I absolutely would if we had subtitles for the Japanese script. I had to play FF7 and Nier in English because I saw that the localization was terrible. Not terrible as other JRPGS, I assume

Yeah, I watch anime only in JP. If I see a fat or ugly woman voicing an attractive character in English, then it'll be a turn off
Mature western, western dev, jp dev make aim or pure western style-> ENG voice.
JP style -> JP voice.

honestly i rarely come across one that isn't bad in some way, usually just to varying degrees.

there is a difference between picking between 2 options for what a word could be translated as where even if i disagree with the one chosen i can see how they *could* choose the one they did...

OR

Playing a game with different characters/interactions to the point you have been sold what is essential the equivalent of a Chinese bootleg ripoff in text and VA form. The sad part is the amount of people who aren't aware that this is way... and i mean WAY more prevalent than you could possibly imagine, spanning decades.

I actually chose to use the english dub in the ff7 remake. The dubs for that were actually not bad outside of a few characters. I played nier with japanese though, I have no idea if the english vo was any good.

If the localization is truly egregious it often only pertains to the dub, as subs usually use a separate, far more accurate and faithful translation. The worst examples I can think of off the top of my head are this game and xenoblade chronicles 2, as they use the weird localized script for the subtitles with the japanese vo. In Xenoblade 2 they literally changed the names of characters in the localization, then used that script for the subs of the japanese audio.
