For anyone who hates the lock-on
Just don't use it. Go into the settings and make sure that the camera doesn't snap behind you, and just control everything yourself. That's how I'm playing, and it's way, way better. I can watch my back while I combo one enemy, dodge the one that's about to hit me because I have that increased awareness from not locking on. Try it if you hate the lock-on mechanics.

Also, don't feel bad about skipping cutscenes. They do give this little paragraph of what happened during it, so you get the gist and can just keep playin.

Yeah, free aim is the way to go. Even better with KBM

Yeah I used KBM for a sec, and I cannot imagine locking on much at all with it. Even with controller I only lock on to see where the enemy is at, then I go back to free. It feels great compared to just mindlessly locking on.

DO feel bad about skipping the cutscenes, though, you're missing out on the best of the game.

I, uh, beg to differ. Story's kinda boring. Having just played FF12 and Tales of Arise, yeah. This game's story is slightly better than Monster Hunter's.

yeah, I've been TRYING to make lock-on work, but once I reached that ice zone, I got so damn sick of my lock-on swapping to the environment when trying to target monsters, lol

I'm not using the lock on feature, but I notice a lot of skills, link attacks etc lock the camera from moving for the animation. It's especially annoying with Zeta because it's locked the whole time you are in the air.
It doesn't track the enemy. It's just stuck in place as if i'm not moving the mouse.

What is the point of playing if not for the story/cutscenes? That is literally the only thing this game has to offer.

Yeah, I'm running Zeta right now and the camera is my worst enemy, lol.

Is where we swing based on character position, or camera position?

From what I can tell from the game's own description of the feature, Lock-on is just meant to make sure your attacks hit the enemy you want them to hit instead of trusting the game to randomly pick the target you're looking at. So it has its place when multiple enemies are close to each other and you want to focus fire one of them.

Do you mean that the game has proper free aim / "camera lock" ? Aka actions/attacks' direction is camera relative, like every self respecting game 20+ years ago had normally ?

Yeah lock-on in this game feels more like Z-targeting in old Zelda, where half the time it's just meant to orient the camera and be quickly turned on/off as needed. Should have been a hold rather than a toggle, it's still useful though
