Pretty Horrible English Localization
It's horrible, if you understand even a bit of Japanese, you will easily get confused because the localizer really like to tell their own story with their own wording instead of just translate it as it is. Often what you heard and what you read will be so different in meaning. It's not just the complex sentences, even the basic one got butchered.

They also like to use impression and western cringe jokes, which really ruin your immersion and made characters out of place.
Even when some characters speak proper formal Japanese, but they changed it to awkward cringe English and add out of place impression.

Top super translation:
(JP): Hmm
(EN): A wishful thinking
They somehow managed to translate "Hmm" into a complete sentence, even tho the character clearly didn't spoke a single word.

(JP): Are you two a couple?
(JP): What!? No, we are just working together
(EN): Are you two an item?
(EN): An item!? Gross, no we are not...
wtf even....

2nd example:
(JP): The ship is still being repaired
(EN): The ship is in the shop
You... sell the ship bro?

3rd example:
Character A: We can't ignore people in trouble
Character B: Exactamundo!
what??

4th example:
(JP): Still talking about that?
(EN): You guys are such a dork
Why?

5th example:
(JP): (dodged thrown spear) That is absurd!!
(EN): (dodged thrown spear) Well that is just happened...

Localization should be below translation. Localization should be suggested not enforced.

If you understand Japanese even a bit, you will know the localization is out of proportion in this game. Not on Crunchyroll level, but still disturbing.

It's cringe, it frequently changed the context, some doesn't even fit the situation, it's even changed some of the character personality. Most localization staff lack the ability to respect the original author, it's really unethical.

When I play Japanese game, I want to experience the Japanese experience from Japanese perspective. I don't buy Japanese game so I can experience sick Western ideology.

Guys, if you dislike the localization, please, let the devs know about this.
Send them a message explaining how awful the EN localization is.

There is, the issue is in the subs that I asume use the english voices that change the script in really weird ways.

That's where the problem lies. There's JP voice but subtitles are likely subbing the English dub/translation.

Some lines were entirely changed and that's why ppl are pissed.

yeah i've noticed it while playing that the characters will say a sentence or phrase in japanese that i recognize and then the english subtitles are completely different from what they're actually saying

idk what the purpose of it is but i noticed it consistently throughout the entire story and i don't even know japanese beyond some key phrases which goes to show how bad it is

It's maliciously done to make sure people never learn a 2nd,3rd etc. language. I learned English from cartoons and TV shows when I was a kid, same for Japanese and a very barebones understanding of German from videogames and shows.

Many that do these localizations admit they don't know the language and hate it. They make them worse as possible to make sure people can't even learn anything new.

Worst offender is changing character personalities, traits and even story. Best thing to do is learn more Japanese by youself and eventually write an email to Cygames, tell them of what is going on because I am sure they are blissfully ignorant that their work is being spat on by people with zero respect for culture, language and IP.

There is, except as others mentioned if you chose English subs, it will be the subs from the English dub. So get ready for cringe ghetto speech, weird ass phrases and expressions only they know what it means. And it's sad because it removes the whole fantasy element and tbh, dumbs down the American English even more to the point where instead of learning some extra words and expression you will learn how to say "yo yo sup my homies".

No, the original dialogue is very human and they speak plainly most of the time.

Just another case of localizers' "improvement". Going by recent revelation of their own speaking, they think anything without their unholy touch is "sucking" and "wouldn't sell half as well if they hadn't stepped in"

It's literally graffiti over art, as key quotes that stand the test of time get ruined by some 4th rate hack who thinks they know better

Gimli: 'And you have MY Axe' becomes 'Poggers, FR FR'
Gone with the Wind: 'Frankly, darling, i don't give a damn' (which cost them a lot of money with the censors back in the past to keep in) becomes 'Poggers, FR FR'

Just washes away all key elements of the story and nothing stands out because it all gets watered down to marvel universe she hulk TV series level of AmAzINg HuMoUr

Btw, it's easy to see the post history/writing trends

Anti-censorship/localisers talk about the censorship/localisation present in the game/video games industry/ fantasy IP industry

Pro-censorship/localisers talk about.... anti-censorship posters directly.

The people who don't care that the translation changed "couple" to "item" or whatever don't talk about you at all.

They're busy actually playing the game.

The english subtitles are based off the english dub so you get the 'WAZZUP FR FR' subtitles instead of the real ones

Hopefully to be modded soon

He said to play it in Japanese, not to play it in English with Japanese voices.
It's still a fallacious argument anyway because the solution to people not doing their jobs properly isn't to do their jobs for them, and we also know that the Japanese versions of games are being impacted by localisers telling the developers what to do while the games are in development now, as publicly admitted by multiple major developers with in-house localisation departments.

That is true

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is showing that all future titles in the series will be censored by the California localisation departments from the ground up in the story, so if that sort of trend continues, there won't be a pure Japanese source to fall back to, it will have been corrupted like the english one was

They really don't want us to have a choice, considering they are taking this path, they just want their crap localisation stamped over everything, its really frustrating

Why do you think weebs like anime so much? The short answer is mostly yes, they do have cute "kawaii" sheet talking in some characters. The long answer is. That is the selling point of anime since the beginning of anime existence but not entirely. The English voice over do have characters that do that. But, there are also more "adult" like characters that don't. So it isn't full childish kawaii sheet talk.
