You're going down a slippery slope here. By that logic, you should also be perfectly fine with them changing literally everything in the script. The gameplay remains the same, so nothing has changed, right?
First, you have to understand why Japanese games, when ported/localized get more censorship: Is it A) because it's a trash gacha game that aims to capitalize on minors, or B) is it because of pressure of woke western publishers?
If it's the latter, you have to be more forgiving. This isn't some 70USD game cut up into pieces with Day 1 DLC.
That's why the dude above me has a very valid point: This is quite the slippery slope. There are a lot of nuances involved and need to be considered carefully. Censoring in by itself without these considerations can be a bad precedent to radical woke practices that aim to change the way the artists/authors/developers intended the game to look, feel, or sound all in the name of radical personal beliefs. It restricts artistical freedom, and that in by itself is a bad precedent as well that may creep into other aspects of the media you love, e.g.... GAMES.
I want to make it very clear that I'm not for censorship. I hope they aren't censoring stuff. But if I didn't know that they put more sleeves on a girl character to cover her shoulders before, how was it going to matter to me now. Why I am supposed to potentially passing a wonderful game because clothes got altered.
It's at the developers discretion. Now if you are telling me that the censoring had major narrative impacts or the game is missing core components then sure it would be a no buy. I'm not trying to tell people how to feel on any level. I'm still asking a question, what censorship is being applied and what type is it so I can make a educated decision on my purchase.
But on this forum board I've seen a lot of people give dramatic over reactions to an unknown quantity that makes me feel that they are trolling for clowns or that they weren't interested in the game much anyway and just hate being cool with people liking different things.
Yeah, that's actually even worse than it coming from outside forces.
I think it's just a personal matter of whether or not you want to support localization decisions like this. I think we've all noticed over the last few years that games, specifically Japanese games, have been making changes to sprites or designs to cover them up. I don't enjoy this and clearly others feel the same way. I would say it feels like censorship because these designs are being modified or censored for this game. Ultimately, for what purpose exactly? That's all I am aware of at the moment. To me, you either are for or against censorship. It's not something you can be on the fence about or pick and choose. If you don't see it that way, that's fine to. I just want games to go back to how they used to be. I'm sick of seeing every release these days changing things for no good reason and that's a perfectly valid reason to not support games like this even if they look enjoyable.
