Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword

Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword

I want a remaster
Imagine what a remaster could do for this game, 64 bit maps. I would have much rather they did that then Civ VII. Still remains the pinnacle of Civilization for me, Though I should give 5 another chance.

I'm normally scathing of remasters but man, I'd pay good money for a Civ IV remaster. Updated engine and graphics, optional balance tweaks and a smattering of new content here and there... a man can dream, but it'll probably never come true.

Considering Firaxis couldn't be bothered paying their lawyers when multiple mod developers offered to make a better engine for free, this isn't going to happen. So just wait for either of existing engine rewrite projects to reach fruition and contribute if you are able.

It's 2 different topics. 3 if you count individual rewrites. Why should I bother listing everything if someone didn't specify even after I asked? Since you did, I'll post what I revisited lately, but in a separate post in case mods have something against my links again.
Well i dont like the sixth or the new seventh series, but yes i would very much like this to be remastered as well.

what would you improve?

graphics are great - you can see everything, literally everything on the map. you can even zoom out and see a globe - which is an amazing graphical effect from square field map.

with Advanced Civ mod, you WILL lose - on prince difficulty.

Fire up AdvCiv, nothing else, epic speed, large map - best strategy game ever made.

again, what is there to improve?

Civ4 easily runs out of memory on big maps and/or with extra graphics. Also you can't use Python newer than 2.4 with the current engine, which limits developers a lot, prevents optimizations and causes incompatibility with Steam version for some mods.
If I could improve Civ4 it would be in making in more 'modular' when it comes to modding. Right now once you install one or two mods it becomes quite tricky to install any other mods on top of them. Like, if I install Advanced Civ but also want to add further little mods like different leader graphics, or change one or two terrain graphics without overhauling the entire thing, or further customize the way the UI looks, add extra QOL features.... it becomes more and more difficult. Also being able to subscribe to mods in steam workshop without having to hunt them down on civfanatics or other sites would be great.
