Multiplayer between mac and pc

Hello,
Me and a friend just bought this awesome game.
Now we try to get multiplayer working. He is on a mac and im on pc. Both of us run the game via steam and have bought the complete edition. When we compare the builds they are the same.

Now, pressing internet I get a list of online games and can create a own game.
When he presses internet he gets a gamespy login question that pops up and cannot register.

We tried downloading hamachi and we have a direct tunnel between the computers (green light) but we dont find the games in LAN either.

Please help, were so excited to try this out!

This problem cropped up for me as well after the June 5th patch. Before, I could play with my Mac friends without a hitch.

That is odd, the Mac version never used Gamespy it used GameRanger...

Mister Yuck: Did you solve it in any way? Right now were thinking of playing Civ V instead but Civ iv is much more fun...

No, never managed to. I think we just have to wait for another patch.

Hello there. I also have the same problem but I couldn't find any solution for this. Anyone any idea? Especially since the windows version doesn't offer entering a certain IP. So all I can imagine is to use services like Hamachi to simulate a Lan?
Anyone has any idea?

I think you get the gamespy login if you run the original release version which is not suitable for MP on steam.

Hi, you can now play civ iv (vanilla) mac vs pc over LAN using this technique:

I confirmed that it works for vanilla civ iv, but did not try expansions.
