Best mod ? or no mod ?

Hi, I'm new at civ 4. Prefered to buy it than civ 5 according critics. I was wondering, what do you guys advice to start with for solo games ? No mod (ie BTS vanilla) or a mod and if yes which one ?
Also, should I directly start with BTS, warlords or plain vanilla ?

Start with BTS vanilla and proceed to mods when feel like it.

I suggest you start with the tutorial (it's in vanilla) and/or read the manual. After that, I think you'll work it out just by playing whichever version you prefer.

Well, i forgot to say that I did quite a lot of civ 1, civ 2 and civ 3 in the past .... so I think the tutorial might be a bit too extreme ...

Thanks ! Yeah I like diplomacty ! Will try it. In fact I already installed BlueMarble (to increase the fonts size) and RealismInvictus (That I haven't yet tried). If I download and instal BUG, will it mess up with my current installation (BTS + Blue Marble + RI) ?

I dont use BlueMarble but I know someone merges these two MOD.
Realism Invictus is my one of the favorite MODs but some concepts of RI are defferent from BTS, especialy technology trading.
So, I recomend you to try Realism Invictus after being satysfied BTS.
Modpacks like RI generally take in UI and terrain MOD.

Fall from Heavan 2 is probably one of the most famous and popular mods for Civ4 . It is a Total remake mod Vampires Orcs and such. If you try it I would suggest getting the Magister Mod Mod . It really cleans it up and adds some neat things. I also like Realism Invictus if you want to stick to the Civ4 exprerience. Suggest using Google to find Realism as it has own website now.

Caveman to Cosmos is probably the best mod this game has seen, It still has support from the developers and it is a very large mod! It still has the vanilla BTS feel to it but its an extremely large expansion to it. here is the link to the mod: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=288570 Has custom music, graphics, tons of options you can set to suit your needs. Your civilization can rebel if you don't meet their needs and split away into their own civ with a new government or you can turn that option off but I keep it on since its more immersive. There is a bunch more and more planned as well. This mod also has mod mods too to furthur expand the game! BTS comes with several popular mods, including Rhye's and Fall of Civilization and Fall from Heaven. You can try them afterward playing BTS so you can see the differences.

Anyway, as suggested I will start by playing BTS vanilla. Justed added bkue marble for larger font and BUG for .. i don't know why :-))) hahaha
