Civ 4 beyond the sword graphics issues

has anyone notice that this game is way choppier from the start than it was even a couple months ago? I have updated my graphics card drivers, changed resolution, and done everything I can think of but the beyond the sword mods, especially next war, seems super slow and choppy. Even on a brand new game. Any ideas how to fix this?

I started playing Beyond the Sword again on a new machine a month ago. Movement on the map is very choppy, even on a new game. Such as scrolling the map in any direction and the animations of any units. Almost unplayable. Is this similar to your experience?

I still have this issue on machines with NVidia cards. I tired to run the game in the Windows 7 compatibility mode (according to Civfanatics forum, this can resolve many problems with Civ4) but it didn't help.

Apart from PCs I mentioned under the link, I have another old PC with Intel HD 3000 Graphics and a fresh installation of Win10. On this machine everything is fine.
