Massive Maps
I've been pretty much playing civ 4 on and off from since its release. And the playable map size available at the time was a little to small for my liking. The issue i have is I'm looking for a more balanced mod that adds larger map sizes than huge.
The one i use (from 15 years ago) is good but has a few issues, like to many civs spawn in the tundra or have otherwise ham strung starts making the game a little less challenging (at monarch), most civ's aren't even hitting a score 500 by around 0AD. The mod I currently use is NeverMind's XXL world (link below), don't get me wrong its a fantastic mod and i highly recommend checking it out especially now as everyone reading will have the computing power to be able to run it with no problems (Try running it 15 years ago, 3 minutes loading time between turns).

So my question is simple, are there any other mods that allow the creation of larger maps? I know balance is subjective, id love to try a different take on the larger map.

I've use the mod below

I don't know anything about mods, but I remember reading that the Terra map script that comes with the game generates larger maps than other scripts, if that helps.

Sorry to post in an old thread but here I use this one its not perfect and has some issues but you can increase the overall map size.

you can easily make a mod that changes map size in \Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML\GameInfo CIV4WorldInfo.xml

Sorry to necro an old thread but Totestra mod is a great one. I play similar to you, mega huge/pangea/marathon maps and Totestra is the best one I've found so far. It doesn't always give me a pangea but there's typically one massive landmass with a smaller one as well. Check it out if you haven't.

i use the map editor to make really huge land masses, roll a huge map, the big/small pre-made is good too, then open map editor, fill and change most of the ocean and i also like putting more rivers and resources, save, then start as a scenario turn 1. This will also give you a legit score in history.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This just might be what I've been looking for for years. My biggest issue has been just when I have all the military academy cities I want, producing elite units every turn, the game is over.

if I just lower the sea level, the land masses are more what I remember from civ 3, which is what I do.

because yeah at normal sea level the land masses are cramped.
