One comment for newcomers is to note the settings selected when reading strategies or watching Let's Play videos. There are so many options and settings in C2C, and while I may think I have a beautiful opening strategy, it is likely dependent on my preferred settings. Read, watch, experiment, but if a strategy does not work for you it may be because of the settings.
Also, slower game speeds allow for more turns of unit movement between tech and building advances. The human player will generally have higher skills with units and get more value from unit activity compared to the AI. In the prehistoric era, hunting animals will improve food, hammer and science growth. Human players should be better than the AI at hunting. On many occassions I have encounted an AI Great Hunter crawling across the map carrying a load of subdued animals, which a human would have taken back to a city for butchering or turning into myth buildings for science.
One of the best mods, and best gaming experiences, for me.
2nd best thing is to slowly grow up at begining. You have to do few techs until your city start to be healthy and get any food.
After saying that I must agree that the mod is first rate. Lots of care and time has been put into it.
For me real fun starts when you can start capturing loads of slaves and use them to superboost your capital.
Has anyone here actually FINISHED a game? You know, actually going caveman to cosmos?
It's also a very large and extensive mod, but it's more balanced with the intention of actually being playable start to finish.
Caveman2Cosmos is a good mod for a "sandbox" experience, but it doesn't work very well as a traditional civ-style game, in my opnion.
I am done wasting time on this.
Are you sure you're installing in the correct folder? When I first tried installing CIV4 mods it took me forever to figure out that they go in the mod under documents, not the mod folder in the game folder, which does nothing for the Steam version IIRC.
