Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword

Sci fi units?
Are there sci fi units in this expansion or are they all part of mods?

Are you referring to the space image? That is a scenario that features a different tech tree than the base game/DLC regular game. There are three differing scenarios that feature science fiction.

I do not know, but in over 200 hours of gameplay of the vanilla game I have never encountered those screenshots. Likely they're from a screenshot as soldier said above, or possibly a mod.

The two screenshots on the steam page are taken from the Final Frontier mod, which is shipped with the game.

Ok. So what does nextwar look like?

So, Final Frontier is a complete conversion that takes place entirely in space and has you colonise star systems. Its pretty good but a bit bare bones, there are modmods that improve it but you need to download them separately. Map pic

Next War simply extends the vanilla tech tree while pushing the space race back. It doesn't look any different to the basic game, but adds a few units at the end. These ones specifically.

The other mentioned one, Afterworld changes the game into a weird turn based RPG. I've not played it a lot.

NICE! BTW are there any mods like Empires of the smokey skies for civ 4? I LOVED that in civ 5, but sadly, there are no mods that really take empire of the smokey skies and improve it. Like I played empire of the smokey skies for civ 5 a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, but sadly after I finished I felt a void left by it that can only be filled by more sci fi civ games and the problem with civ 6 is that there is only 1 future unit(the giant death robot) and it just makes future era combat nothing but spamming giant death robots.

I've not seen anything steampunk specifically, but there are a number of mods that are either sci-fi centred or add a bunch of 'future' tech stuff.

Ones (available on civfanatics) that I am familiar with include;
Dune Wars - Total conversion that is set on Frank Herbet's desert planet Arrakis. One of my favourite mods.
Final Frontier Plus - Modmod for Final Frontier that expands it
Star Trek - Modmod for Final Frontier
Fallout Tame the Wastes - A total conversion to the Fallout wastes, interesting abandoned long before being finished.
Planet Fall - Based on the old civilization spin-off game Alpha Centauri, basically what happens after the space race

Things i've not tried,
MoO2 - Masters of Orion conversion
Babylon 5 - Modmod for Final Frontier
Caveman to Cosmos - Re-imagining of the core game with techs extending into the future, a lot of people swear by this mod

There is bound to be more
